Background information of "I Stand on the Chain Bridge"
The Iron Cable Bridge in the text:
Characteristics and location:
It is located on the Dadu River in the west of Luding County, Sichuan Province. It is paved with wooden boards with 9 iron chains. It consists of two iron chains on the left and right sides as handrails. The iron chains are as thick as the mouth of a bowl. Each chain is about 150 meters long and weighs about one ton.
The Luding Iron Cable Bridge is located on the Dadu River in the west of Luding County. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The bridge was built in the 44th year of Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty and completed in the 45th year of Kangxi reign (1706). Kangxi's imperial pen inscribed "Luding Bridge" and an imperial monument was erected at the head of the bridge. The bridge is 103 meters long and 3 meters wide. 13 iron chains are fixed in the wells on both sides of the bridge abutment. 9 are used as bottom chains and 4 are divided into two sides as handrails. There are 12,164 interlocking iron rings, and the iron parts of the entire bridge weigh more than 40 tons.
The bridgeheads on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are ancient wooden structures with unique features unique to my country. Since the Qing Dynasty, this bridge has been an important passage from Sichuan to Tibet and a key military link.
There are abutments on both sides of the bridge, 20 meters high, with a trapezoidal top and a square bottom, built with strips of stone. There is a 6-meter-deep well behind each of the two abutments. Each well has 7 or 8 earth dragon piles made of pig iron, which are inserted into the well wall at the bottom of the well in parallel with the bridge body. Below the ground dragon pile lies an iron-cast Wolong pile, each weighing 1,800 kilograms.
The iron cables of Luding Bridge are fixed on these Wolong piles. The gravity of the bridge abutment and bridge piles jointly bear the tensile force of the bridge, making it extremely strong. There are bridge pavilions on the bridge platforms on both sides of the strait, which can not only prevent rainwater erosion and fall into the wells, but also serve as a place for the government to collect bridge taxes and fees.
In the east bridge pavilion, there is Kangxi's "Imperial Luding Bridge Stele", which records the beginning and end of the bridge construction. To the west, there is a three-character stele "Luding Bridge" written by Emperor Kangxi himself. Behind the East Bridge Pavilion is the Guanyin Pavilion, from which you can overlook the entire Luding City.
The Luding Bridge tourist attraction consists of three parts:
The first is Luding Bridge.
The second is the Luding Bridge Revolutionary Cultural Relics Museum. The museum displays photos, materials and physical objects of the Red Army's forcible crossing of the Dadu River and the capture of Luding Bridge, as well as inscriptions by the leaders of the Red Army at that time, famous calligraphers, The artist's calligraphy and famous paintings.
The third is the "Monument to the Red Army's Flying Capture of Luding Bridge" and its park. The title of the monument was inscribed by Deng Xiaoping and the inscription was written by Nie Rongzhen. The location is in Luding County, next to the Sichuan-Tibet Highway.
Iron Chain Bridge and the Red Army’s Long March:

Full text of the poem "I Stand on the Iron Cable Bridge":
I stand on the Iron Cable Bridge,
Iron Cable Bridge
p>The bridge is shaking gently.
The clouds and mist of Erlang Mountain drifted above our heads,
The white waves of the Dadu River rolled under our feet.
The heroic Red Army,
had a forcible crossing here,
holding the red flag high and facing the light of the fire.
Warriors,
climbing on to the iron ropes,
braving the dense rain of bullets,
broke through the enemy The fire network!
Ah!
The building where the fierce battle was fought back then has become a classroom for children now;
The place where the warriors spilled their blood,
The pear trees are blooming.
The people held beautiful flowers and scattered them gently, gently on this heroic land.
I stood on the chain bridge,
my heart was surging.
The clouds and mist of Erlang Mountain drifted overhead,
The white waves of the Dadu River rolled under my feet.
Ah!
In this heroic land,
I want to sing loudly!
