Collodi originally wrote a story about a puppet (renamed Pinocchio in the second year of serialization) paying off debts. He even mentioned in a postscript to Ferdinando Martini, president of Children's Daily: "These materials I sent you are just childish gadgets.

You can do whatever you want. I can keep writing if you want to use it. Unexpectedly, "this childish and ridiculous gadget" has aroused great interest of readers. From July 7th, 188 1 was serialized in Children's Daily in stages until 1883.
