As long as you can live up to your conscience, there is nothing you can do if others are dissatisfied

"Smartness is mistaken for wisdom, what coincidence?"

Although some people are smart, their wisdom has not reached the end.

For example, they have learned a little bit about debating, but they have not understood the real reasoning. They only know how to look at other people’s faults and talk about other people’s shortcomings all day long; they have learned a little bit about Prajna, but they have not understood the true emptiness. It is believed that cause and effect, the Three Jewels, and the Four Noble Truths do not exist.

There is also a Tibetan saying: "If you learn Yinming well, you will be good at litigating; if you learn precepts well, you will be good at stealing." This does not mean that learning Yinming is for litigating, or that learning precepts is for stealing. It means that some people are so smart and cunning that they turn their wisdom into evil wisdom.

There are also people whose intelligence has become the cause of their karma. For example, some computer experts can understand everything just by typing on the keyboard with two hands. They often use high technology to commit crimes to satisfy their various greeds.

To be honest, if intelligence becomes the cause of wrong views and depravity, it would be better to be dumber and more honest.

There was a story once upon a time: There was an iron tower in a pool, and there were many frogs under the tower. They saw the sharp top of the tower, and they all discussed: "It's raining today and the sun is not shining. How about we climb the tower?" ?" Most of the frogs happily agreed.

When we climbed to the middle, the sun came out and the frogs were basked to the point of dying, so they began to retreat and fell one by one.

After going down, they looked up and found a frog climbing to the top of the tower. How could this happen?

It turned out that the frog was deaf. When everyone climbed up together, it followed him up. When they discussed their return, it didn’t hear it and continued to climb straight up. Finally, it successfully reached the top of the tower. .

Similarly, some people have very good minds and very clever hands, but what they do becomes the cause of their own destruction. And some people don't know anything and only recite "Om Mani Padme Hum" every day, but in the end they may achieve extraordinary achievements. Therefore, sometimes it is better to be smart than dumb!

Even the Buddha couldn't do it.

To do something and get everyone to say yes, this requirement is too high. Even the Buddha couldn't do it. . Therefore, as long as you have a clear conscience in everything, no matter what others say, as long as your intentions are pure, you should stick to it until the end.

In the past, when the Buddha was still alive, Devadatta, Bhikkhu Shanxing, Dama Traza, and the six heretical masters were desperately against the Buddha. No matter how merciful the Buddha was to them, they would not do anything. Move - Some people say that the Buddha's precepts are impure, some say that the Buddha's views are not ultimate, and some heretics see that the Buddha's majestic golden body has nine kinds of ugly appearances... The Buddha also said personally in the sutra: "Those who have faith in me in the world "The number is like the dust on the fingertips, and those who have no faith are like the dust on the earth."

This is true for those who are perfect like the Buddha, let alone us as ordinary people. .

There once was a business owner who wanted to benefit all his employees wholeheartedly and hoped that everyone would say good things about him, but he was never able to realize this wish. No matter how hard he racks his brains, no matter how much financial and material resources he spends, there are still some people who oppose him. So he was particularly upset. One time when he complained to me, I told him: "Buddha cannot satisfy all sentient beings, and I'm afraid we can't. Although your wish is good, you may need to reconsider it."

You must know that it is really difficult to please all living beings. There is a story in "Aesop's Fables":

There was an old man and a child who went to the market with a donkey carrying goods.

On the way home, the child rode on the donkey and the old man drove the donkey away. When passers-by saw it, they pointed and said, "This child is really ignorant. Let the old man walk and enjoy himself."

The child got busy and let the old man ride. Others said, "How can this old man bear to let his child walk while he rides on a donkey?"

After hearing this, the old man quickly picked up the child and the two of them rode together. After walking for a while, someone else said, "The old man and the young man are so cruel. They almost exhausted the little donkey to death."

The two had no choice but to get down and walk, but someone else laughed at them: "Yes. If you don't ride the donkey, you are really a fool!"

Finally, there was no other way, so the two of them carried the donkey home.

It can be seen that no matter what you do, it is absolutely impossible to satisfy everyone. After weighing it, if most people agree, that's fine.

I have asked many people to give their opinions to see how my lectures are going -

Some people said: "You talk so fast, who can understand? Slow down!" ” So I deliberately slowed down my speech.

Someone protested again: "You are talking slowly. No one wants to listen. I have already dozed off. Can you speak faster?" So where is the speed that is neither fast nor slow? This is really impossible to grasp.

If I talk a little more broadly, someone will say: "You've been talking for a long time, I have other things to do, so speak less and don't be too talkative!" Then I will be brief. a little.

As a result, someone else complained: "If you explain it so briefly, no one will understand it. I have nothing else to do but listen to the Dharma. I should explain it more broadly and quote more teachings and evidence."

Since I was not satisfied no matter what I did, I could only draw a line based on my own ability and conscience.

There is also a well-known story in Tibet:

A family member married a new daughter-in-law. When the daughter-in-law first came in, her mother-in-law was very good to her. She was virtuous and capable, but she had one flaw. Just don't like to talk. Later, her mother-in-law was very dissatisfied and said that she was like a mute. For this reason, she had to divorce her.

Her husband had no choice but to listen to his mother and send her back to her parents' home.

On the way back, there was a rocky mountain. When the two of them were climbing over the mountain, they heard a bird on the mountain "chirping, chirping, chirping" incessantly. Her husband was upset and took out an arrow to kill it. < /p>

Indeed, in life, sometimes we can’t do this or that. Some people suggest being more “moderate”, but the standard of moderation also varies from person to person. The foundation and will of each sentient being are Different, the judgment results are also very different. In fact, it is simply impossible to satisfy everyone.

Therefore, as long as you have a clear conscience in everything, you don’t have to be praised by everyone. As long as you are worthy of your own conscience, there is nothing you can do if others are dissatisfied. After all, even the Buddha cannot satisfy all sentient beings, so how can ordinary people like us do it?
