Requirements for writing couplets

The basic requirements for couplets are: equal number of words, cohesion between upper and lower parts, matching phonology, and relative parts of speech.

1. The number of words in the first line and the second line is equal. There are many forms of couplets, such as positive pairs, opposing pairs, flowing pairs, joint pairs, and sentence pairs. However, the constant rule is that the number of words in the upper and lower couplets is equal. For example: the first line: Thousands of auspicious lights and Tengjiyu, the second line: Nine layers of spring scenery Yinghuatang. It can be seen that the couplets are equal in word count.

2. The upper and lower lines should be connected up and down. The upper and lower lines of the couplet are connected to each other and have similar content, but they cannot be repeated. For example: the first couplet: green mountains without ink painting for thousands of years, the second couplet: flowing water without strings and an eternal harp.
