What are the types of sand cleaning?

For castings produced in single piece or small batch, surface sand is usually cleaned by hand with chisel and wire brush. It is a heavy job to manually remove the sand on the surface of castings, and the working conditions are harsh. Therefore, more advanced mechanization methods should be adopted as far as possible.

Commonly used mechanized sand cleaning methods include hydraulic sand cleaning, electro-hydraulic sand cleaning, roller sand cleaning, shot blasting sand cleaning and chemical sand cleaning.

(1) Hydraulic sand cleaning: a method of separating the sand adhering to the casting surface by high-speed water flow.

(2) Electro-hydraulic sand cleaning: using the shock wave generated by high-voltage discharge in liquid to remove the sand attached to the casting surface.

(3) Sand cleaning on the drum: the sand stuck on the surface of the casting is removed through the collision and friction between the casting and small additional special iron in the drum.

(4) Shot peening: It is a method that uses compressed air or mechanical force to make a large number of small particles impact the casting surface at high speed to remove sand particles and scale.

(5) Chemical sand cleaning: a method of removing sand and scale on the surface of castings by chemical reaction between chemicals in liquid and sand or scale on the surface of castings.
