Liu Zhenyun's "One Sentence is Worth Ten Thousand Sentences": There are two precious life philosophies hidden in the repeated plots
In the previous article, we analyzed Liu Zhenyun’s purpose of setting up many repetitive plots in this novel.
Next, let’s talk about the philosophy of life contained in these plots.
Although the story is a bit convoluted, I benefited a lot from reading it~
This is an obvious repetitive plot in the novel.
When Yang Baishun was 13 years old, he did not dare to go home because he made a mistake and slept on the threshing floor in the village. At that time, Lao Pei was carrying a knife to kill someone. When he met Yang Baishun and heard him tell his story, he gave up the idea of ??killing people and took him to the town to eat a bowl of hot braised noodles.
When Yang Baishun was 18 years old, he was drunk and wanted to kill someone in a rage. When he passed by the threshing floor, he saw a child of twelve or thirteen years old. He called Lai Xi. His biological mother was dead, and his stepmother always stuck a big nail in his belly button. After hearing this, Yang Baishun no longer wanted to kill anyone, and took Laixi to the town, just like Lao Pei took him.
Lao Pei and Yang Baishun had the same motive for killing. Life is like a mess, and they are the victims of this mess. They have suffered great injustice as they continue to cut things out and return to chaos.
This injustice is a long story.
Lao Pei’s mother died early when he was a child, and it was his sister who brought him up. There was a rumor in the village that his sister had an affair with a salesman when she was seventeen. When Lao Pei grew up, he made a living by selling donkeys. By selling donkeys, he also started a family. His wife’s surname is Cai. Lao Cai and Lao Pei's sister didn't deal with them.
Lao Pei often went to Inner Mongolia to sell donkeys, where he had a sweetheart. In addition to Lao Pei, that sweetheart also has a sweetheart from Hebei. After she became pregnant with the man's child in Hebei, her husband went to Hebei with a knife. Unexpectedly, the name and address of this Hebei man were fake. Her husband didn't find anyone, so he went to Henan to vent his anger on Lao Pei.
Because of other people’s children, Lao Pei apologized and paid for travel expenses. "If you have shortcomings in the hands of others, you will never be able to turn around in your lifetime." After the Inner Mongolian people left, earth-shaking changes took place in Lao Pei's family, and Lao Cai began her journey to become king. Lao Cai had two orders. One was not to let Lao Pei go to Inner Mongolia to sell donkeys. Second, from now on, Lao Pei is not allowed to interact with his sister's family.
From then on, Lao Pei stopped talking. Not only did Lao Cai bully Lao Pei at home, which made Lao Pei angry, but she also told others about Lao Cai's anger in the village as a joke. One day, it rained, and Chunsheng, the son of Lao Pei's sister's family, took shelter from the rain in the village. Lao Cai took him back home.
That day happened to be his daughter’s birthday, and Lao Cai made pancakes and eggs. Chunsheng was an honest child and ate eleven pancakes in one go. After he left, Lao Cai made a big fuss. She scolded Chunsheng, saying that he had eaten more than a dozen pieces of cake and deliberately corrupted people. He also scolded Lao Pei's sister, saying that she was a bitch who had been working as a salesman since she was seventeen. He also scolded Lao Pei for looking for a lover in Inner Mongolia. This wasn't the end yet, Lao Cai scolded her again, "It's over if you two sisters are so nasty together."
Lao Pei couldn't bear it and slapped her. This slap slapped the king out. The next day, Lao Cai's brother Cai Baolin came. He is a "man who can make urine out of a dead toad". He reasoned with Lao Pei for a whole day and talked about a lot of things. Lao Pei went crazy after hearing this and had to admit his mistake. Cai Baolin just left.
After Cai Baolin left, Lao Pei felt more and more aggrieved. What had he done? Why should he be bullied like this? He raised the knife to kill Cai Baolin. Later, I met Yang Baishun.
Yang Baishun told Lao Pei his tragic experience. Things are also very complicated. At first, a pig was lost at home, and the family went to look for it. Yang Baishun fell ill, so he stayed at home to look after the pig. Yang Baishun heard that Luo Changli was mourning today, so he ran to see Luo Changli, but he didn't see Luo Changli, and the family's sheep was lost again.
Lao Yang beat Yang Baishun, and then talked about who was in charge at home, starting from the sheep. Yang Baishun can only go out to find sheep. It was getting dark, and he was sick, but he didn't dare to go home, so he could only sleep on the threshing floor.
After hearing what he said, Lao Pei suddenly woke up.
"A thirteen-year-old child, in order to see a person or lose a sheep, made several detours, and was finally forced to become homeless; he himself was three-year-old. There are more than ten people, can you really kill someone because of a few cakes? After the murder, there are still three children at home. It turns out that everything in the world is going wrong."
When Yang Baishun met Laixi, he also had a problem. Some insights. He thought, "It turns out that there are many twists and turns in this matter." "I am eighteen years old. Although I have been wronged by some people, I don't seem to be happy yet. It is easy to kill the old horse, but I What happens next? It turns out that everything in the world contains grievances."
"Everything in the world is full of twists and turns" and "Everything in the world contains grievances." I think this is the philosophy that the author wants to reveal when writing these trivial matters.
In the early years, I also felt that I was unlucky. Just because of some small things, in the end, it led to huge changes in fate. I can't figure it out. After reading this book, I felt a little relieved. It turns out that these are common things. The "butterfly effect in destiny" is actually everywhere.
If Lao Pei kills someone for Cai Baolin's words, and if Yang Baishun kills someone for Lao Ma's phlegm, they do stupid things on impulse, and they will definitely regret it after thinking about it.
The pain of the past points not to escape (such as running away), not to the end (such as killing someone), but to change.
I have recently listened to some psychology books, and what touched me the most is that more than one author said that studying why pain is not the most important thing, the most important thing is that we must have the power to change.
I think this is also what the author of the novel wants to express. To put it simply, the past is like a quagmire that once made us sink. When we grow up, it doesn't make much sense to go to its deepest depths to find out. On the contrary, it will make us never land.
Lao Yang and Lao Ma are on good terms. But in fact, this is just Lao Yang's wishful thinking. Lao Ma did not regard Lao Yang as a friend at all.
When Lao Yang encounters a problem, he goes to Lao Ma for advice. "Lao Ma has given Lao Yang no less than a hundred ideas." Lao Ma is not stupid, he is secretive.
County Magistrate Xiao Han established Yanjin New School. This matter had nothing to do with Lao Yang, but Lao Yang kept complaining to Lao Ma. Lao Ma got tired of hearing this and gave him an idea, asking Lao Yang to send his son to a new school in order to let him come back and sell tofu in the future, so as to increase the value of the tofu. Lao Yang listened.
Then Lao Yang had another problem. He didn't know whether to let his second son go or his third son. Lao Ma made another move, saying that the stupid third son should go, but not the smart second son Yang Baishun. Why? Because you have a smart mind and if you don't come back to sell tofu after you finish your studies, your efforts will be in vain.
Lao Yang asked again, what should be done so as not to offend his second son. The old horse said, draw lots. Lao Yang understood this and went back and wrote "no" on both paper balls, asking Yang Baishun to catch them first.
In this way, the fate of Lao Yang's two sons was changed by a few words of Lao Ma. Yang Baishun later learned that he had been plotted by his father, and he felt resentful and finally left his hometown. The third child only attended the new school for more than half a year, and later worked as a stoker on the train.
This is not over yet. Lao Yang also asked Lao Ma about his eldest son.
At that time, the daughter of Lao Qin, the boss of the county, wanted to choose a new son-in-law. Everyone knows that this is just a matter of anger to gain face and should not be taken seriously. Only Lao Yang wants to take advantage of this. he asked Lao Ma. Lao Ma cheered him up and encouraged him to go, in order to make him hit the wall.
It is a coincidence that Lao Qin's daughter has read too many novels and did not know the dangers of life, so she actually married into the Yang family and became the daughter-in-law of a tofu seller.
Seeing this, we can actually understand what the author wants to say after writing so many things.
It is simply unreliable to ask others when encountering major issues. Not to mention whether you are really on good terms with him or not, even if you are on good terms with him, he may not be interested in you. Even if you take it seriously, you may not be able to see things accurately.
When Yang Baishun asked Lao Zhan about major events in life, Lao Zhan told him sincerely: "Son, for the first time, I am not telling you in the name of the Lord, but in the name of your uncle, when encountering small things, You can count on others; when encountering big problems, you must not tie your own destiny to others."
This sentence touched me too deeply. I only learned this when I was thirty years old and experienced a lot of setbacks. In fact, a lot of pain in life is caused by not understanding this sentence.
Yang Baishun’s nephew Niu Aiguo just doesn’t understand this. He and Lao Yang are the same person.
When he was young, he asked Du Qinghai something. They get together every weekend and chat. Niu Aiguo usually saves his troubles until weekends and asks Du Qinghai together.
After getting married, his wife had an affair. He ran out of ideas again, so he took a train for two days and two nights from Shanxi to Hebei to find Du Qinghai. Du Qinghai gave him only two words of advice, one was "tolerance" and the other was "to change". Niu Aiguo acted as if he had received an imperial edict and immediately implemented it when he returned.
When his wife cheats on her, he doesn’t make a fuss. He does whatever his wife likes to eat, and he says whatever she likes to hear. In the end, when he opened his mouth to speak, his wife would vomit.
He asked his old classmate Li Kezhi again. Li Kezhi gave him the word "Lai". Niu Aiguo didn't take it seriously at first. Later, when his wife filed for divorce, he understood the beauty of the word "lai". So, if he doesn't divorce her, he just drags her with her, which can be regarded as a kind of revenge.
He also asked his old friend Feng Wenxiu. Feng Wenxiu is a confused person with no good ideas. One day when he was drunk, he told others about his family affairs, which made the whole county know that he was a cuckold and wanted to take revenge and kill someone.
In fact, whether it is Du Qinghai, Li Kezhi, or Feng Wenxiu, they all have one characteristic, that is, they have never lived their own lives clearly. How can one fully trust the ideas of such a person?
Niu Patriot still does not repent. He finally met someone he really liked, named Zhang Chuhong. They had originally agreed to fly away together, but Niu Aiguo listened to what others said. The man's name was Cui Lifan. He meant that it was unrealistic to fly far away, and if he continued to do so now, he might be killed.
Niu Aiguo believed her and did not contact her for seven months. By the time Fan Ran repented, Zhang Chuhong had already moved away, and it was said that she was going to Beijing to be a young lady.
In fact, Niu Aiguo has gone round and round and been confused all these years. He just cannot see through one thing, that is, he has to make the decision on major matters by himself, and never rely on others.
Therefore, although there are repeated plots in the novel, it is not that the author is verbose for no reason. What is the purpose of arranging these plots and what thoughts are intended to be expressed? Readers will understand after reading these stories.
In the next issue, I will sort out all the philosophies of life in the novel, welcome to pay attention~
