The crowing frog makes people laugh and ask questions about official affairs, and even persuades hungry people to eat minced meat. This poem describes the tragedy of a stupid emperor.

Foreword

Zhou Tan, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, wrote a seven-character quatrain about a silly emperor:

The frog croaks and asks questions about officials and private matters with laughter. He also advised hungry people to eat minced meat. Ignorance is like a woman with all kinds of opportunities, and she is in peace with her husband.

The first two sentences contain two allusions to this silly emperor, and the last two sentences are an evaluation of this silly emperor.

1. The origin of the allusion

A woman who is ignorant and has many opportunities is like a woman, and she is in a state of chaos.

Zhou Tan said, this emperor is ignorant and unreasonable, just like those women who cannot leave the house. He is ignorant and the country is in chaos. How can foreign enemies and internal invaders be at peace?

So the Western Jin Dynasty began the Eight Kings Rebellion and the Five Husbands' Rebellion in China, which ruined the country and country that the Sima family had stolen from the Cao Wei family.

The crowing frog makes people laugh and ask questions about official affairs, and even advises hungry people to eat minced meat. From "Jin Shu·Hui Di Ji":

The emperor was in Hualin Garden and heard the sound of shrimps and toads. He called his left and right people and said, "Is this person doing the sound official or private?" Or he said to him: " Being an official in official land, being private in private land." When the world was in chaos and the people were starving to death, the emperor said, "Why don't you eat minced meat?" This is how he was deceived.

Sima Zhong, Emperor Hui of Jin Dynasty, was born with a little mental retardation. Two allusions, one is a joke about a frog. Do you think the frog's cry is for official or private purposes?

Another joke was that he clearly cared about the suffering of the people, but asked why he didn't eat minced meat. Therefore, history books commented that the emperor was deceived and ignorant of worldly affairs.

2. This is a pity

Emperor Wu of Jin Sima Yan was the founding emperor. Although he relied on the accumulation of three generations of ancestors and grandsons, he himself was able to pacify Soochow and safely replace Wei with Jin , nor is he a fatuous and incompetent emperor.

But this wise emperor had trouble with the issue of heirs. Because Prince Sima Zhong is a fool and cannot hold a big position.

Everyone in the civil and military circles of the dynasty knew that the prince's IQ was a bit low and he was unable to shoulder the important responsibilities of the country. But establishing a heir apparent is a big deal, and no one dares to wade into troubled waters, as their wealth and life may be lost.

At that time, Wei Guan, the general who conquered the north, was the minister, and he often wanted to raise this matter with the emperor, but there was never a suitable opportunity.

At a palace banquet, everyone was drinking quite happily. Wei Guan pretended to be drunk and said to the emperor that I have something to advise you. The emperor asked him, what do you want to say?

Wei Guan did not dare to speak directly about the matter, but touched the throne and said, this seat is a pity. Sima Yan, Emperor Wu of Jin Dynasty, understood immediately and asked: Are you really drunk? Wei Guan shut up and never mentioned the matter again. But the Crown Princess has already taken revenge...

In "Zizhi Tongjian" Volume 80:

Three of the people who stopped talking were because they touched her with their hands. Bed said: "What a pity this seat is!" The emperor understood, and because of the absurdity, he said: "Is the Duke really drunk?" Guan had no more words to say. Empress Jia was resentful...

Sima Yan arranged for someone to investigate his stupid son, but his son had a powerful wife named Jia Nanfeng. She asked someone to answer for Sima Zhong, and Sima Zhong took care of it. He copied the answer by hand and deceived Sima Yan.

Sima Yan was overjoyed after reading his son's answer, and showed it to Wei Guan, who was so frightened that Wei Guan did not dare to say anything.

All the ministers knew that Sima Zhong was a fool. Is it possible that Sima Yan was the only one who didn't know this?

"Book of Jin Hui Di Ji" says that Sima Zhong "is all deceived like this". It seems that Sima Yan is almost the same. Is it true that all emperors are as deceived as fools?

3. Jia Nanfeng and the Rebellion of the Eight Kings

After the death of Sima Yan, Sima Zhong ascended the throne, and the good days of the Western Jin Dynasty came to an end.

Zhou Tan said in his poem: Kou Rong is not in chaos. The reason is that Emperor Hui of Jin Dynasty was "ignorant and like a woman." Just as Wei Guan said, "It's a pity to have this throne." After Sima Yan's death, Jia Nanfeng disrupted the government, and as a result, everyone coveted the throne of the emperor.

The emperor's low intelligence was only one of the reasons. According to historical records, although Emperor Hui of Jin was slow, he was kind-hearted. If he had good ministers to assist him, he would not have shaken the foundation of the Jin Dynasty.

But unfortunately, he has a strong, selfish and cruel wife, Jia Nanfeng.

Jia Nanfeng is the daughter of the powerful minister Jia Chong. This Jia Chong once led troops to kill Wei Emperor Cao Mao. He was a hero of the Wei Dynasty in the Western Jin Dynasty and won the trust of Sima Zhao.

When Sima Zhao died, Jia Chong became Tuogu's minister. After Sima Yan ascended the throne, Jia Chong married his daughter Jia Nanfeng to Prince Sima Zhong.

Jia Nan was ugly and jealous, and regarded Sima Zhong, Emperor Hui of Jin Dynasty, as a tool of his own power. She planned to kill Tai Fu Yang Jun and Empress Dowager Yang Zhi. He also killed Taizai Sima Liang and Taibao Guan, who reminded Sima Yan that "this seat is a pity".

Jia Nanfeng himself was unable to have children, so he raised the butcher knife to the prince again, and even the biological mother of Prince Sima Yu was not spared.

Anyone who commits unjust acts will be punished by his own death. Jia Nanfeng was soon executed by King Sima Lun of Zhao. The "Eight Kings Rebellion" began in the Western Jin Dynasty. The Sima family fought with each other, which led to the decline of the clan and subsequently the Five Chariots. magnificent.

The unlucky and stupid emperor Sima Zhong was sometimes deposed and sometimes established, becoming a puppet at the mercy of others. Later, it was said that he was poisoned and killed by Sima Yue, King of the East China Sea, at the age of 48.

Conclusion

Emperor Hui of Jin Dynasty Sima Zhong did not have a high IQ, but he was kind-hearted and harmless to humans and animals. If he did not become an emperor, he might have lived a better life, and the Western Jin Dynasty would not be as short as 50 It will perish in a year.

If Jia Nanfeng were a vassal princess, she would not have the chance to make trouble. At most, she would show off her power at home. Unfortunately, the Jia family was too powerful, and the traditional idea of ??establishing heirs and eldest son was deeply rooted, so Sima Yan did not make the decision to change the prince, which resulted in pain for the family and the country.

If Sima Zhong was just a rich man and made a few jokes about "Why not eat minced meat?" every day, it would be a good thing both publicly and privately.

Sima Yan probably couldn’t rest in peace even under Jiuquan.
