"A gentleman on the beam" is an allusion to thieves. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was a Chen Ya. One night, a thief sneaked into Chen Ya's house, climbed onto the roof and hid himself, intending to steal in the dead of night. Chen Ya found out secretly and didn't bother him. He got dressed and shouted to his children and grandchildren. Chen Ya gave them an aboveboard lesson, calling thieves "gentlemen on the beam" and saying that such people can also be changed. Hearing this, the thief lying on the beam jumped to the ground and kowtowed to Chen Ya. Frankly speaking, he wanted to turn over a new leaf. After playing here, people call the thief "a gentleman on the beam". This couplet jokes about Liang Dingfen's name and curses Liang Dingfen.

When Liang Dingfen knew about this, he was furious and wanted to find this person. Later, he finally found out that it was written by his student Yin Ya. Liang Dingfen will write a couplet: "You have an evil heart. How can you swallow it without a mouth?" The banner reads: "Yi Yin stole someone." This couplet also makes fun of the names of his students, and the language is equally clever.
