Does soy milk powder contain protein?

Soy milk powder is the main food consumed daily by women, children and the elderly. It is also a traditional convenient breakfast food. Its quality issues are of concern to consumers. Recently, the Sichuan Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce conducted random inspections on 30 batches of soy milk powder distributed in large and medium-sized commercial buildings, supermarkets and other business premises in three cities including Chengdu, Mianyang and Nanchong. Quality indicators such as protein, fat, total bacterial count, and pathogenic bacteria were mainly tested. After testing, 4 batches were found to be qualified, with a pass rate of 13.3. 26 batches were unqualified, with a failure rate of 86.7. The test results show that the total number of bacterial colonies in soy milk powder exceeds the standard and the protein and fat content are insufficient. The hygiene and quality are poor.

The main problems discovered during the random inspections: First, the total number of bacterial colonies exceeded the standard. The total number of bacterial colonies is an indicator of biological contamination and can easily cause food poisoning. There are 6 unqualified batches, namely: "Qichang" brand "Vita Protein Soy Milk Powder" produced by "Chongzhou Xinzhiwei Beverage and Food Factory in Sichuan Province" and "Huazhixin Beverage and Food Factory" The "Huazhixin" brand "Middle-aged and Elderly Bone-Strengthening Soybean Milk Powder" is produced, and the "Huayue" brand "Vita Soybean Milk Powder" produced by "Yaofa Food Factory in Jianyang City, Sichuan Province" is labeled as "Renshou County, Sichuan Province". The "Quanzhou" brand "Vita-type soy milk powder" produced by "Quanzhou Food Factory" and the "Sandun" brand "breakfast soy milk" produced by "Guilin Sanwei Food Co., Ltd."; second, the protein and fat content are insufficient. The protein and fat indicators directly reflect the quality and nutritional content of soy milk powder. There were 20 batches with insufficient content; third, the additive saccharin sodium was used indiscriminately. Four batches were found to be unqualified because they contained sodium saccharin, an additive banned from use in soy milk powder. Indiscriminate use of food additives will cause potential poisoning to the human body; fourth, the urease activity index is unqualified. Nine batches of urease activity indicators tested positive. Urease is an enzyme commonly found in bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract and urinary tract of humans and animals. If the test result is positive, it means that there are pathogenic factors or insufficient sterilization in soy milk powder, which poses potential safety risks for consumption.

Precautions for consumers when purchasing soy milk powder:

1. Correctly distinguish between "soy milk powder" and "protein solid drinks". Soy milk powder is made from soybean flour as the main raw material, with added milk powder, white sugar, etc., and has high protein, fat and other nutrients, such as instant soy milk powder, etc.; "protein solid drink" uses sugar as the main ingredient, with a small amount of milk powder added , solid "beverages" made from soy flour, such as soy milk crystals, etc.

2. Make the correct purchase according to your needs. Instant soy milk powder is divided into type I and type II. Type I "removes residue" and has good reconstitution properties, but has less dietary fiber. Type II does not "remove residue" and has poor reconstitution properties but has more dietary fiber. Check the beans when purchasing. Check whether there are any lumps in the milk powder. Qualified soy milk powder will feel soft, smooth and fluid; unqualified or spoiled products will feel uneven and have lumps of irregular size.

3. Pay attention to the production date and shelf life.
