Because it was not conducive to repeated use and preservation, it was later used to scrape thin sheepskin and donkey skin and carve various figures on it, so it was called "shadow play" and "donkey shadow play".

during the song, yuan and Ming dynasties, shadow play was very popular. In the Yuan Dynasty, with the Mongolian army's westward expedition, shadow play spread to Iran, Turkey and southwest Asia, and then to France. So at that time, foreign countries called shadow play "China Shadow Play".
