Why is Jiangxi poorer than several surrounding provinces?

First, transportation. Except for the Poyang Lake Plain (which unfortunately suffers from the Yangtze River floods), most of Jiangxi is mountainous and hilly, and transportation is extremely inconvenient. This is a major reason that restricts the development of Jiangxi. In the 1990s, many places had slogans like "If you want to get rich, build roads first." Fortunately, in recent years, with the changes in the national economic environment, there has been some improvement.

Second, education. Jiangxi is a province dominated by agriculture. Due to the large proportion of agricultural population, education is relatively backward. The education penetration rate and level among the agricultural population are not high, so Jiangxi is still exporting migrant workers. One of the largest provinces in China; in addition, most of the Jiangxi candidates who were admitted to universities did not return to Jiangxi, but gave priority to finding jobs in other provinces. Obviously, Jiangxi is in a serious situation of labor and brain drain. Of course, it has a lot to do with Jiangxi Province itself, which has few job opportunities, low wages, backward systems, and the inability to retain people. Fortunately, this year the country has vigorously advocated the development of "nine-year compulsory education", which has improved the situation, but there is still a long way to go before the education level can truly reach the level of developed regions.

Third, in terms of industrial structure, Jiangxi is dominated by agriculture, and it is still very backward. The economic added value is not high. Under the exchange system of the market economy, it does not have a big advantage, so its economic strength and Competitiveness is still very low. In recent years, special breeding and planting have been vigorously developed, and things seem to be improving. However, the government's imposition on farmers often happens.

In terms of industry, due to the backwardness of the system and government intervention; and Jiangxi’s geographical environment does not have most of the industrial advantages (except for cheap labor and abundant natural resources), the industrial competitiveness is really useless. It can be said (occasionally there are a few companies that are somewhat famous, such as Jiangzhong Pharmaceutical Company).

Fourth, government bureaucracy: Jiangxi is very bureaucratic and has a very serious hierarchical concept. As the main government agencies, the efficiency is generally low and the fiscal deficit is worrying. A large amount of tax revenue has not been used to do practical things for the people. Nowadays, many places are engaged in image projects and building industrial parks, which really makes people doubt the ability of local officials.
