How to be a dedicated teacher?
A person's life is always accompanied by many possibilities, and the meaning of concentration may be that when faced with many choices, don't disturb your heart, don't be confused, and follow your heart. It is said that companionship is the longest confession. Professor Liu Xinwen has devoted his 32-year teaching career to the teaching he loves, which is irreplaceable. He will retire at the end of this year. A reporter from the school newspaper interviewed him, so he made this interview. He said: "Don't be greedy, concentrate on one thing, that is, try to be a dedicated teacher." Committed to the teaching of civil law, he has deep feelings for the team of the Institute of Civil Law of French universities. Together with more than 20 colleagues, he passed on the concept of "love the post and love the students". -inscription
When you walk into Mr. Liu Xinwen's civil law class, you will be infected by the harmonious and vivid atmosphere. His rich and detailed explanations, incisive analysis, occasional humor and occasional laughter can always arouse students' interest in learning civil law, inspire students to understand and safeguard the civil law thinking of private rights, and temper their methodology of legal relations. Teaching learns from each other and pays attention to accumulation. Years of teaching experience enables Liu Xinwen to accurately grasp students' listening status and help them improve their learning efficiency in a limited unit time. Since 1983 graduated, this three-foot platform has witnessed every step he has taken. Interaction with students, academic exchanges with the team of the Institute of Civil Law, and teaching and scientific research all make him enjoy it. He doesn't worship the gold diggers and the successful people who pursue power in Vanity Fair, but only pursues "physical and mental freedom". He chose to concentrate on being a university teacher. Even if peaches and plums don't talk, they will always blossom in different ways.
Want to be a hard worker.
When Liu Xinwen was young, he went through a very difficult course of studying. Because of the Cultural Revolution, he was forced to terminate his junior high school studies at 1968, and was not admitted to Fada until 1979. For more than ten years, he worked as a farmer, a rural grassroots cadre, a railway worker, a salesman of township enterprises, and a private teacher in junior high school. No matter how the living environment changes, he never stops learning. Literature, language, history, economy, geography, philosophy, he is eager to read every book he can get his hands on. Even in the days of hard work in the countryside, he made a palm-sized notebook with white paper, insisted on taking some study notes and thinking, and learned to express his feelings with poetry. Others regard dictionaries as reference books, and it takes time to look them up. However, he copied more than ten thousand words of 10 from a concise philosophical dictionary borrowed by chance, and the contents of monism, dualism, materialism and idealism became the basic knowledge of his philosophical enlightenment and thinking. His hard-working attitude laid the foundation for his subjective initiative in studying at Faju University in the future. It may be hard for modern students to imagine that a young man who graduated from junior high school in 1968, was in his twenties in 1979, lived in a bad environment, ate wowotou, and sometimes even ate wowotou, and lived on sweet potatoes for three meals a day, taught himself geometry, trigonometry, geography and politics. And participated in the college entrance examination for three years in a row, and finally realized my college dream.
There is no need to say you are happy after a long drought. After entering Fada, Liu Xin swam steadily and heartily in the sea of knowledge. He never finds life between classrooms, canteens and dormitories boring, and all kinds of entertainment activities have no temptation for him. First of all, he is short of money. Second, he is not interested. For him, it is the greatest pleasure to concentrate on reading and studying. Liu Xinwen is enthusiastic and sincere. During his eight semesters in college, he insisted on collecting and distributing newspapers and letters for the whole grade of Grade 79 for more than seven semesters. For more than seven semesters, he ran twice every morning and afternoon between the mail room on the first floor of the teaching building and the classrooms of twelve classes on the fourth floor, taking turns to pick up the work that should have been completed by each class, so that students could receive newspapers and letters in time. From today's point of view, Liu Xinwen is not only enthusiastic, but also a real "principal". During his college years, more than half of his grades were excellent. In the past four years, he has been rated as "three good students" for three years and "excellent student cadres" for one year. In the graduation season of 1983, he took the whole class to study hard, and his class of grade 79/kloc-0 was rated as "Beijing Advanced Class Collective" and visited the Great Hall of the People and Zhongnanhai collectively. Nevertheless, he had many things during his four years in college. "It's a pity that he should have done well but didn't do it." Liu Xinwen commented on himself "even with medium IQ and academic ability." As far as his experience is concerned, he has a tenacity to stick to the end and a drive to work hard once he has identified the road. He himself said, "Make yourself a very hard worker.
During his college study, he liked civil law. Extracurricular reading was originally the earliest civil law textbook "Soviet Civil Law" and civil law papers before the Cultural Revolution in China. Fortunately, Mr. Jiang Ping and Mr. Zhang Peilin organized a small number of students in Grade 79 who like civil law to set up a "civil law study group". He actively participated in the study and discussion of the group from beginning to end and was cultivated and praised by these civil law teachers. From 65438 to 0983, his thesis "On Compensation for Mental Damage" was awarded as an excellent graduation thesis.
After graduation, I stayed in school, worked in the Labor Department of the Undergraduate College of Law University for one year, and entered the Civil Law Teaching and Research Section of the then Law Department from 65438 to 0984, and engaged in civil law teaching under the guidance of Teacher Zhang Peilin. On 1985, he wrote a civil law academic paper "On the Ownership of Self-employed Households", which was published in the fifth issue of the Political and Legal Forum under the pseudonym "Hua Fu". In teaching, at first, as a teaching assistant, I taught the theory of ownership to the students of Grade 82 in the class from 65438 to 0985, and was hired as a lecturer from 65438 to 0987. In the same year, the Changping Campus of Fada was officially put into use. He was appointed as the director of the office for freshmen of Grade 87, and worked in grade management for one year in the most difficult years in Changping Campus. 1988 resigned as the deputy director of the grade and returned to work in the Civil Law Teaching and Research Section. Since then, he has been conscientious in his teaching post. In teaching and scientific research, he first intensively read the vertical editions of Shi Shangkuan's General Civil Law, Property Law and General Debt Law, and then intensively read Wang Zejian's Dragon and Eight Branches and a large number of papers on civil and commercial law, and built his own knowledge system with civil and commercial law theory and law as the core. "I like teaching, and I also like civil law. Administrative rank and position are not my choice. Working in a civil law teaching post is my first choice, "he said frankly. Civil law teaching is the top priority of Liu Xinwen's true love, interest and career ideal. "I was excited and happy as soon as I went to the podium to talk about civil law." He said: "I am very happy to see the students' attitude of listening carefully." With more than 30 years of calmness, singleness and persistence, he explained the word "love" for this beloved profession.
Because he loves teaching civil law, Liu Xinwen can integrate his teaching experience into writing books and making statements. The Principles of Civil Law, which he co-authored, created a great achievement of "winning four prizes in one book" (two national second prizes and two municipal and ministerial first prizes). Bill Law, written by him, is first of all a planning textbook of the Ministry of Justice, and has won the "excellent ministerial textbook". Later, it was revised, and together with his Introduction to the Law of Creditor's Rights, it became the national 11th Five-Year Plan textbook. As early as 1988, he was awarded the title of "excellent teacher at the ministerial level" by the Ministry of Justice, won the honor of advanced teacher at the college level for many years in a row, and won the "special award for excellent teachers" at the school level in 201/kloc-0.
He always insists on "doing what needs to be done well" and doesn't pay much attention to his reputation. He firmly believes that as a teacher, love and dedication is the primary condition for him to teach and educate people. At the same time, as a law teacher, we should think independently in teaching and scientific research. "The mind is in full bloom, and the breeze comes."
Work in an academic team that loves work, is dedicated, harmonious and pursues progress.
Liu Xinwen said, "The Institute of Civil Law is a caring, dedicated, harmonious and progressive academic team", which can have many adjectives. He finally outlined the institute of civil law in his heart with such a description. He also said, "I am very lucky to work in this team and have been very happy for decades." It is a pleasure to get a like-minded person; It is lucky to have a like-minded team. For Liu Xinwen, the upward team of the Institute of Civil Law is a treasure in his heart. The Institute of Civil Law was formerly the Civil Law Teaching and Research Section of the Law Department of our school. Before the adjustment and reform of the faculties of the University of Law in June 2002, a group of teachers with strong professional ability and noble morality led the teachers in the Civil Law Teaching and Research Section to devote themselves to teaching and educating people together. After the establishment of the Institute of Civil Law, it has inherited the tradition of "loving their jobs and students", laying a solid foundation for the fine atmosphere in today's team.
Talking about the predecessors of the Civil Law Teaching and Research Section, Liu Xinwen said: "Whether the atmosphere of a team rises or falls has a lot to do with the predecessors. In the upward background, people who join the team will naturally rise along the track. " He was deeply impressed by the professionalism of his predecessor. In his memory, Mr. Yang Zhenshan not only loves his job and his students, but also has deep feelings for Fada. Teacher Jiang Ping's lectures are full of personal charm, loud voice, clear and standard Mandarin, and his love for the country and the rule of law is integrated into every class. At that time, Mr. Zhang Peilin's class was full of creative colors. In the 1980s, when case teaching was not systematic, he had to introduce carefully selected cases into every class, which were vivid and vivid, so that students could apply what they had learned. Jiang Ping once commented that Zhang Peilin "almost created a brand-new teaching method". The courses taught by Mr Tian Jianhua and Mr Li Huijun are formal and systematic. The system of logical deduction is rigorous and complete. The blackboard design is clear and can fully reflect the teaching ideas. The lecture was focused and comprehensive, which made people feel very relaxed after listening. Teacher Wu Changzhen is a low-key person. She has been devoted to the study of China's marriage law for decades. "She is the standard-bearer among jurists in China's civil law circles who safeguard the rights and interests of women and children!" Liu Xinwen praised Teacher Wu like this. These teachers of the older generation also have the same feature: all students who seek advice and help in their studies are enthusiastic about helping. Liu Xinwen recalled that in 1982, when he was a junior majoring in civil law, he wrote an academic paper on compensation for mental damage. Because this subject is very cutting-edge, with few materials and great difficulty, he solicited the opinions of Zhang Peilin, Yang Zhenshan and Jiang Ping, and they all got careful guidance. Teacher Jiang Ping offered to lend his translation to him for reference. Teacher Yang Zhenshan told himself about his participation in the civil law legislative meeting. There is a college student named Shen in Zhang Zhenshan who often goes to Zhang Peilin's teacher's house for advice without prior contact. Teacher Zhang never refuses. Teacher Ping Jiang is more responsive to students. Liu Xinwen clearly remembers 1983 that summer at noon, he went to Mr. Jiang's house, and Mr. Jiang was making lunch around an apron. When he came, he turned off the gas and talked to him. While speaking, a student came home and asked Mr. Jiang to write a letter of recommendation. After Mr. Jiang finished writing, he also said some encouraging words to the student. Liu Xinwen said that the words and deeds of his predecessors have always inspired him to study hard: all students who seek advice and help in their studies should receive unconditional help. Over the years, he has done the same. Students who ask for advice, students who ask for help in writing foreign letters of recommendation, and students who participate in student activities will give help as long as they can. On the BBS of Law University, students often ask questions about civil law. Even if the questioner doesn't have Aite, he will take the initiative to answer after seeing it.
Speaking of the predecessors of civil law teachers, Liu Xinwen said with emotion that when he first went to the podium, Mr. Zhang Peilin personally listened to his lecture. After class, he said: Pay attention to enriching the content to prevent the classroom from being boring; Look up at your classmates and tell them not to read the manuscript. When necessary, they often communicate with students with their eyes. When writing on the blackboard, you can't talk at the same time, because your back is to the students. You should pay attention to organization and don't write at will. Don't talk about law and jurisprudence in isolation, but must be combined with cases; In-class and extracurricular teaching must be combined, and so on. These intimate missions have become the treasures of Liu Xinwen's teaching career, the magic weapon for his smooth teaching work and his life creed.
The words "pass, help and bring" have been truly reflected in the teaching and scientific research activities of the Institute of Civil Law. Under the example of the older generation of teachers, the Institute of Civil Law has inherited good experience and style, and a number of outstanding young teachers have emerged. Such as Mr. Yan's teaching style, clear organization and strict logic; Teacher Fei Anling studied under Mr. Jiang Ping, and was welcomed by students with full and high-pitched teaching status; Teacher Li Xiandong was more or less influenced by teacher Zhang Peilin's case teaching. Teacher Zhu Qingyu inherited Yang Zhenshan's style of attaching importance to theoretical research, and his academic papers are readable and can stand scrutiny. Li Yongjun, Liu Jiaan, Yi Jun, Yu Fei and other teachers have detailed, rigorous, logical and appropriate information, and they all have a large number of "fans". Speaking of himself, Liu Xinwen said that the shortcomings of his courses are slow progress and sometimes too open. If qualitative, the content is meticulous and systematic, the method pays attention to the classroom atmosphere to avoid boredom, and appropriate extracurricular exercises are combined with classroom teaching. In addition, I also learned from the practices of teachers such as Jiang Ping and Zhang Peilin, and organized 2065438 students 1 1 to set up a civil law study group, which meets once every two weeks to discuss and exchange civil law-related issues. Many of these students have listened to his lectures, from Civil Law 1 to Civil Law 3. After the third class of Civil Law, there are three semesters of civil law study group activities, and they have gained more learning experience and research results about civil law.
The unity of the Institute of Civil Law also comes from the close academic exchanges and teaching discussions of the whole team. For a long time, organized by Li Yongjun, Liu Jiaan and Liu Zhihui, the Institute of Civil Law has held an academic seminar every two weeks. One or two teachers were arranged in advance to prepare. In the concentrated activities, everyone asked questions and expressed their opinions, and colleagues expressed their opinions and started discussions. In the case of different academic opinions, it is necessary to discuss different opinions in depth, and strive to clarify the general theory and accommodate non-mainstream views in teaching. Through years of persistence, the Institute of Civil Law has surpassed the positioning of ordinary teaching grass-roots units and become a United and progressive academic team.
In order to achieve high-quality teaching objectives, we should work together to become the knowledge and ambition of all teachers in the Civil Law College. There are many models in the Civil Law College who love their posts and are loyal to their duties. The task of civil law teaching in law universities is extremely arduous. Every semester, we have to face "two 1.08 million students": 1.08 million freshmen's civil law general course and 1.08 million students' civil law second and third grade courses. There are also many so-called elective courses called case study courses and civil law practice courses, which are actually for students. It is an overload to attend classes for many years in a row. What is commendable is that the teachers of the college often focus on the professional work of the team and even sacrifice their personal interests to complete the teaching work. There are countless examples of dedication. Teacher Liu Zhihui has served as the deputy director of teaching for a long time, and needs to manage a lot of teaching affairs, and also serves as an academic teacher for undergraduates. She will concentrate on teaching, regardless of personal gains and losses, work hard, often take two or three courses, and even step forward to substitute for her colleagues in the institute when they suddenly get sick. Teacher Dongqing Chen had a short vacation due to illness, but when her health improved slightly, she returned to the podium at the first time. Teacher Li even has to take about 200 major courses each semester, which greatly relieves the class pressure of the Institute of Civil Law. In addition to ensuring the normal teaching of civil law, the Institute of Civil Law also plays an important role in the evaluation of Jiangping Scholarship and Academic Ten-Star Thesis Competition. Heaven rewards diligence, and the hard work of the whole institute is obvious to all. Among the "Top Ten Teachers Most Popular with Undergraduates" previously selected, the Civil Law Society occupies two or three seats. Liu Xinwen said that for students, we just "did what we should do as teachers", and with a humble attitude, the study of civil law has become an indispensable landscape in law universities.
A teacher full of expectations, a diligent scholar.
Every law student should find a suitable learning method of civil law. Liu Xinwen summed up his teaching experience for many years and sincerely put forward two suggestions to his classmates.
The first aspect is that I hope everyone can firmly grasp the knowledge of books. "Read the textbooks clearly, do a good job in the classroom, and master the most basic' three basics' of civil law learning: first, basic concepts, second, basic knowledge, and third, basic principles." Liu Xinwen's "three basics" is the necessary foundation for civil law learners to build their own knowledge superstructure. In order to help students lay a good foundation, he urges everyone to read books, write experiences, case studies, papers and reading notes in his class every semester. 18 weeks of course content is limited, and he tries to help students find ways to learn civil law under the guidance of these extracurricular trainings.
"The mind is not just a copier", laying a good foundation is the first step, and then it is more important to build his own knowledge structure of related courses. He often wants his classmates to build their own knowledge structure, that is, to turn the knowledge in books into their own knowledge. For example, he said, Zhang Wuji should learn Tai Chi sword from Zhang Sanfeng in "Eternal Dragon Slayer". After demonstrating the swordsmanship, Zhang Sanfeng asked Zhang Wuji if he still remembered it. Zhang Wuji replied "I completely forgot", but in fact he turned the tangible swordsmanship into his own use, seemingly "I completely forgot", but actually completely absorbed it. Liu Xinwen hopes that students can do the same when studying civil law, not just repeating the contents in books, but having their own opinions on the basis of understanding and application.
The second aspect is to hope that students can practice properly. The exercise here does not refer to a large number of questions when preparing for the exam, but to the experiential application of what you have learned. You can not only test your knowledge in practice, but also deepen your understanding of the course content through discussion and study with your classmates.
A person's life is very long, so he should "read thousands of books and follow Wan Li Road"; Four years in college is very short, so study should be selective. Liu Xinwen believes that we should not blindly pursue the accumulation of "quantity" in the university study stage, but should pay attention to the improvement of "quality". For each course, it is enough to really value a textbook and understand a professional book. However, studying selectively does not mean fixing and limiting one's development direction prematurely. He disapproves of contemporary young people taking "pragmatism" as their own standard of action. In fact, everyone has many possibilities for future development.
"You should learn more. Achievement is not the most important thing. Nutrient absorption will help you sooner or later. Don't be too pragmatic when you are young. " He thinks there may be unintentional opportunities along the way. 1997, in the first 1 1 year when he was teaching the law of negotiable instruments in Liu Xinwen, he received an invitation from the French University Press, hoping that he could write a textbook on the law of negotiable instruments. In fact, Liu Xinwen, who has always attached importance to teaching, has accumulated a large number of handwritten notes for the Bill Law. That summer, he accepted the invitation and began to organize and write in the small apartment of the graduate school. For more than 40 days, he worked day and night. When sunbathing in the west every day, the cabin is particularly hot. He prepared a basin of cold water by the broken fan, and when the heat was unbearable, he washed his face with cold water to stay awake. After three times of sorting, he finally handed over the finalized textbook of Negotiable Instruments Law to the publishing house. This textbook won the third prize of excellent teaching materials at the Ministry of Justice for the first time, and was reprinted several times in several years. Later, it became the textbook of the 11th Five-Year Plan and the 12th Five-Year Plan, which was one of his achievements in teaching and research. This small achievement also reminds him all the time that life is endless and research is endless.
In the 60th year of his life, Liu Xinwen looked back on his more than 30 years standing on the podium with happiness, relief, regret and expectation. He loves teaching and realizes the value of life by preaching and teaching. He loves Fada, and since he was 25 years old, he has settled here and got married. He loves students and adheres to the principles that teachers should have. He said that in recent years, he clearly realized that as a teacher, it is not appropriate to accept gifts from students on festivals such as Teacher's Day. Therefore, in recent years, he "doesn't even accept a flower on Teacher's Day, because the students in the school stage have no financial resources, and the cost of gifts should be paid from the living expenses." He also hopes that colleges and universities can form a noble atmosphere of academic exchanges between teachers and students and avoid the relationship between teachers and students being entangled in the atmosphere of "giving gifts". He also expects colleges and universities to speed up the pace of "de-administration" from the leadership and departments, and management institutions should eliminate "power consciousness" and "style of exercising power", truly formulate systems from the perspective of facilitating teachers and students and serving students, and strengthen humanized management.
As a teacher, he writes youth with chalk, sticks to his post and works tirelessly; As a scholar, he doesn't take fame and fortune as the vane, works hard and devotes himself to research. He practiced his ideal of life in teaching and found a sense of belonging in the Institute of Civil Law. Retirement is not the end of his academic career, but another starting point. In the eyes of law students, he will always be the "steady grandfather" with good humor and high morality.
With gratitude, let's sincerely wish: have a stable mind, teacher, happy retirement, and we love you.
