Model United Nations: motion on the situation in Ukraine (on behalf of France)

Dear Mr. Secretary-General and delegates, today, on behalf of the government of the French Republic, I propose several serious motions on the situation in Ukraine:

First of all, we insist on the free right of the Ukrainian people to choose and decide their own destiny, but now this precious right is being seriously violated by the Russian Federation. My government suggests that the UN General Assembly discuss whether Russia's actions violate international law and the UN Charter.

Second, Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula is an inherent and inalienable territory of Ukraine, which has been illegally occupied by the Russian Federation government, seriously undermining Ukraine's territorial integrity, and the Russian government's aggressive ambition must be limited. Our government proposes that the United Nations should condemn Russia's actions and the United Nations Security Council should hold an emergency meeting to discuss whether to impose sanctions on the Russian government.

Thirdly, in view of the extensive humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, our government, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, suggests that the UN Security Council take immediate action to authorize European countries to establish UN peacekeeping forces to prevent the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine from spreading.
