Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, our province* **457 provincial-level cultural relics protection units were announced in 5 batches, including 101 in the first batch, 53 in the second batch, 211 in the third batch, and 92 in the fourth batch. The fifth batch includes 368 locations. Among them, the fifth batch of 368 provincial-level cultural relics protection units was announced on April 15, 2008, as well as 6 merger projects with existing provincial-level cultural relics protection units. Including 85 ancient sites such as Fanjiazhai in Nanzhang County, 50 ancient tombs such as Bi Sheng's Tomb in Yingshan, 132 ancient buildings such as Lei's Temple in Macheng City, and 10 grotto temples and stone carvings such as Tiebi Cliff Stone Carvings in Yangxin County. There are 89 important modern historical sites and representative buildings including the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, as well as 2 other types of immovable cultural relics such as the Sichuan-Hunan Ancient Salt Channel in Shennongjia. So far, the number of cultural relics protection units in our province has reached 825, ranking among the top in the country.
