Reconstruction of qingyuan county Donglu Church

With a seating capacity of more than 3,000 people, this church is one of the largest Catholic churches in China. This tall western-style church stands in the countryside of North China Plain, surrounded by vast fields where wheat and corn are planted.

Residents along the street are responsible for cleaning and posting slogans, and colorful flags are inserted in front of every household. After the Eucharist Parade ended, the procession returned to the courtyard. Everyone knelt in the courtyard, waiting for the Eucharist blessing, and finally returned to the church.

From 1929 to 1937, before the Sino-Japanese War, many Catholics went to Dongpu every year to worship the Virgin of China. The church elites who came to Donglu for pilgrimage included: Archbishop Gang Hengyi, the first representative to China, and Bishop Cai Ning, the second representative to China; More than 20 parishes including Bishop Mandly, Bishop Sun Dezhen of Anguo and Bishop xian county; There are 100 priests from Paul Yuping (later promoted to cardinal) and Lei Mingyuan. The outstanding bishop of Tianjin diocese must make a pilgrimage to the East Land every May. Bishop Zhou Jishi of Baoding parish goes to Dongpu to pray for the Virgin Mary more than once a year and writes books to publicize it. As for the number of Catholics who come to make pilgrimages, according to a report by Father Dai Muling of Tang Bendong in 193 1, this year alone, 25,000 Catholics made pilgrimages to Donglu. It is said that during the pilgrimage, the Virgin of China often works miracles, including rehabilitating dying children, seeing the blind and walking the paralyzed. As a result, Catholics' enthusiasm for Catholicism has increased, and the number of pilgrims to the East has gradually increased every year. It also promoted the development of Catholicism in North China.

Today, the reverence for the Virgin of China has gone beyond the scope of Chinese mainland, and the statue of the Virgin of China is also widely circulated. 1964, Bishop Luo Guang established a spectacular Notre Dame China Temple in Kaishan Road, Tainan City, Taiwan Province Province. 1974, on the occasion of the founding of the church 10, bishops, priests and congregation from Taiwan Province province gathered here to celebrate the 50th anniversary of paying tribute to the Virgin China.
