Doctor’s duty

Dr. Hellman is a doctor with superb medical skills and noble medical ethics. The clinic he opened has become famous far and wide, and no one in the Polish city of Brasha does not know Heilmann and his clinic.

One night, his clinic was opened by a thief. A little cash and several precious medicines were put in the bag and prepared to be taken away. Unfortunately, in his panic, he knocked down the bottle holder and tripped over the oxygen tank. The thief broke his thigh and couldn't get up even if he tried to run. At this time, Hellman and his assistant came down from upstairs. The assistant said: "Call the police to take him away!"

"No, patients in my clinic cannot go out like this." Hellman carried the thief onto the operating table and performed continuous operations on him overnight. Surgery on the limb and a plaster bandage. He was completely cured in the clinic before being handed over to the police.

The assistant said: "He stole your property, why are you still treating him like this?"

"It is a doctor's bounden duty to save lives and heal the wounded."

Another day, his ex-wife escorted a man to the clinic who had been seriously injured in a car accident. She burst into tears and said: "Heilman, dear Heilman, do you still hate me... The seriously injured person was Levster who took away Heilmann’s beloved wife.

Levster was in a coma and did not wake up until he entered the operating room. Seeing that it was Hellman holding the scalpel, he couldn't help but be shocked and struggled to get up.

"Lie down honestly. This is God's arrangement. You are the patient I must save. What the doctor forgets in the operating room is his personal grudges, and what he remembers is only his bounden duty."

This year, Germany launched World War II and occupied Brassa. A Gestapo leader was shot in the chest by a Polish underground fighter. None of the army doctors could perform such a major operation on him, so they disguised him and sent him to the Hellman Clinic. Hellman recognized at a glance this was the most brutal German criminal police officer. Countless Poles had died at the gunpoint of this man in this city.

Heilman dismissed all the assistants and medical staff. He washed his hands, shaved, put on the suit he only wore to church, and put on the latest white coat. Then he picked up his largest scalpel and cut open the Gestapo's chest. Instead of looking for the bullet, he stuck the scalpel into the man's heart...

At the trial, the German said: "You have soiled your scalpel."

"No, it is well used."

"You have forgotten the bounden duty of a doctor."

"No," he said word by word, "there was once a doctor It was said like this, 'On the stage of life, we should calmly think for a moment, and then play our role.' At this moment, anti-fascism is the highest vocation!" - Every word was heard by everyone in the city.

Heilman died. But the two big words "vocation" were posted everywhere in the city. Without adding other words, it became an anti-fascist slogan with great appeal.

Faced with thieves and love rivals, his understanding of "vocation" is: to save lives and heal the wounded. Facing the fascists, his understanding of "vocation" is: to destroy the enemy.

The first two storylines of this novel show Dr. Hellman's kind and tolerant character, and the third storyline shows Dr. Hellman's just and brave character.
