How to make an ideal card for Dragon Boat Festival

A simple method for making an ideal Dragon Boat Festival greeting card by hand:

Tools/raw materials: colored paper, colored pens, glue, scissors

1. Make rice dumpling leaves. Cut out a larger round piece of white paper, then cut out a smaller rice dumpling leaf, and draw the veins with a blue crayon (as shown in the picture).

After Qu Yuan threw himself into the river, every May 5th, Qu Yuan’s memorial day, people would throw rice into the river to commemorate Qu Yuan. One night, someone dreamed that Qu Yuan was sallow and thin, so he hurriedly came forward to inquire. It turned out that all the rice that the people threw into the river was eaten by fish, turtles, shrimps and crabs. Qu Yuan had no food to satisfy his hunger, so he became increasingly thin.

He thought about it, wondering how to prevent the fish, turtles, shrimps and crabs from eating the rice. Qu Yuan told him that if rice was wrapped in bamboo leaves and made into sharp-edged rice dumplings, fish, turtles, shrimps and crabs would think they were water chestnuts and would not dare to eat them again. After the man woke up, he told the dream to his neighbors.

On the Dragon Boat Festival the next year, people did what Qu Yuan said in their dreams. Soon, Qu Yuan entrusted a dream to that person again, thanking people for sending rice dumplings. Later, people began to do this, and gradually formed the habit of wrapping rice dumplings. "There is Dragon Boat Festival in May, and rice dumplings and deep-fried dough sticks are soaked in realgar." During the Dragon Boat Festival, people not only eat rice dumplings, but also fried food. Fried foods like fried dough sticks, twists, hemp leaves, etc. are commonly made by people. Among the many fried foods, sugar cakes and cabbage corners are the most typical and representative holiday foods.
