The development of history

1950, in order to meet the needs of work in ethnic minority areas and meet the urgent requirements of training ethnic minority cadres, the Government Affairs Bureau of the Central People's Government issued the Pilot Program for Training Ethnic Minority Cadres, which clearly put forward the establishment of ethnic minority colleges and universities, and made clear provisions on the training objectives, academic system, teaching contents, teaching methods, sources of funds and living conditions of students in ethnic minority colleges and universities.

195 1 year 1 month, Zhongyuan University (the predecessor of Huazhong Normal University) was entrusted by the Central Military and Political Commission to organize the Central South Branch of Minzu University of China, and Meng (195 1 year -65438+), vice president of Zhongyuan University, selected the site in April of the same year. After three moves, the school site was finally determined in June+February, 5438 at the southern foot of Hongshan Mountain in Wuchang (now in the compound of Hubei Military Region).

195 1 In May, the Central South Military and Political Commission issued an enrollment notice. Central and South China has enrolled 200 students, mainly administrative cadres, mainly training county-level cadres (including county-level liberal arts section chiefs and other educational administrative cadres). After the expiration of their studies, they still return to their original jobs. All students study for 6 months. Judging from the enrollment situation, the orientation of the school at the beginning is to train cadres, and the school is equivalent to the "base" for cadres to further their studies. The first-phase students of Central South Campus of Minzu University of China began to enroll in August. 195 1. They come from Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan and Hubei, including Miao, Yao, Zhuang, Li, Hui, Dong and Maonan. The education level is uneven, mainly including junior high school and primary school education, and some are illiterate. They come from different regions, with many nationalities, different languages, different customs, different education levels and different religious beliefs, which brings great inconvenience to the teaching of the college. But doing a good job in this area at that time was of great political significance and far-reaching historical significance.

The new school building was officially started in July 1952, and the first phase of the project was completed in June of the same year 10. The first batch of four buildings, including administrative building, student dormitory and classroom, were built, and then the college moved into the new campus.

1952165438+1On October 27th, with the approval of the Central South Military and Political Commission, the Central South Branch of Minzu University of China was renamed as Central South University for Nationalities. Leading the Central South Ethnic Affairs Committee, the chairman is still Meng. The second phase 19, with 336 ethnic groups, started school in June, 1952, and the opening ceremony was held in Xinhongshan campus.

In order to concentrate on running the South-Central University for Nationalities well, the South-Central Ethnic Affairs Committee decided to close the Guangdong University for Nationalities, which started in 1953, and transfer the cadres and students who were originally concentrated in the school to South-Central University for Nationalities as cadres and students. 1953 In April, Guangdong University for Nationalities moved to South-Central University for Nationalities. 1July, 953, there were 65438 faculty members and 569 students. The organizational form of the school is changed from three levels: college, department and group to three levels: college, department and department. In addition, a periodical editorial committee was established to lead the editing and publishing of periodicals. The Central South Ethnic Song and Dance Troupe is a subsidiary under the leadership of the president, and later merged into the Central Ethnic Song and Dance Troupe.

1953 1 1 month, Meng resigned as dean, and Xiong Shouqi, deputy director of the Central South Ethnic Affairs Committee, served as dean. 1954, Li Shouxian was transferred as the dean (from August 1954 to April 1958).
