Perhaps this strange quality from afar is particularly attractive to me. Whether it is the vivid "story of heaven and man" or the pictures and materials of Miao embroidery in the book, they all inspire me to continue exploring. I began to learn more about Miao embroidery and the Miao people’s understanding of the universe and life. And when I had the opportunity to obtain a small piece of old embroidery, without the profound elements of the celestial poles and stars, it was full of emotions and very touching. It has a great leap, it is very ancient and very modern, very mysterious and very direct, giving people a composite experience. I think the embroidered piece is like a teller, and the vegetable tanned leather is its audience, so I want to use them together to create a stage for a magic play.

The production process must be more complicated. I was in a daze for several days looking at the embroidery pieces and leather. After starting production, I continued to modify the design. In the end, apart from the presentation of the embroidery pieces, the finished product had nothing in common with the original design. I tried hard to feel the breath of vegetable tanned leather and speculate on the ancient legends in the embroidered pieces. I felt that I particularly wanted to tell this story well. I carefully selected every word and sentence, and repeated them. Even a punctuation mark would affect the overall charm. Looking at it now, this work seems to have been a bit over-exerting. It may be that I added too much of my own inner drama when I was not fully aware of the natural laws of Miao embroidery.

Not long ago, I went to southeastern Guizhou and experienced for myself the world and the universe that the Miao people used to communicate with embroidery, batik, and silver ornaments. It seemed that it was not much different from before, but it also seemed that there had been many changes. It's not that complicated.

This pair of silver jewelry was picked up at the antique market in Guiyang. There are many legends about Miao silver jewelry. It is said that wars were frequent in ancient times, and Miao girls were often tired of running around to escape. It was extremely inconvenient to carry their belongings at home, so they simply turned them into jewelry and clothing. Once a war broke out, they could wear them and run away. Over time, it evolved into today's Miao silver jewelry. It is also said that because they live in the mountains, when a girl gets married, she is often encountered by wild animals on the way, so her parents prepare a set of gorgeous mottled silver attire for the bride, with a large silver horn on her head and various silver ornaments around her body. A piece of silver bell jingles when walking in the deep mountains and old forests. It is dazzling and majestic, and even wild animals will run away after hearing the wind. These ordinary and pure stories make me feel that what I need is not further research, but to rediscover the connection with nature. Simplicity is the attribute that my artifacts need.

Using accidental scraps and intentional scraps to make this uninhibited bag seems to release the wild child in me, grinning wildly in the sun. During the process of making, I just let these leftover materials find their balance point spontaneously, making every angle feel free and comfortable. I guess I just respected the nature of the leather and didn’t do much else.

I am happy to have found a way to enjoy both the beauty of detail and complexity, as well as the simplicity and purity of objects, which give me so much satisfaction. I think handmade leather goods are like a big box, in which I can contain the collision of many beautiful inspirations, and where I can also find the answer to my pursuit of self-balance. Persevere in curious exploration and patient feelings, and in the end, everything I accumulate can be used by me.

As for what I want to do with my next work, and whether I will be more customized for others in the future, I haven’t thought about it that much. What I think about at this stage is just to interpret the material through the work and tell more about it. There are many stories, and I can bring out my creativity one by one and realize it, and through my interpretation method, I can also express some of my attitude towards life.
