I am a junior three student, and I urgently need Chinese and English compositions (with translation) about the Shanghai World Expo.

The first World Expo was held in London on May 6th, 2005. At that time, Britain was the most powerful country in the world. To show the strength and pride of this country, the British government built a 1 700-foot-long and 100-foot-high "Crystal Pa Lace" in Hyde Park, which used 4,500 tons of steel and 300,000 pieces of glass (later destroyed in World War II). Queen Victoria invited ten countries to display their products in this "palace". During the 160-day Expo, a total of 6.3 million people visited the Expo.

There are two types of world expositions, namely "comprehensive world expositions" and "special world expositions". In the past 50 world expositions, most of them were comprehensive. The products on display at the comprehensive Expo cover projects of various natures. On the free venue provided by the host country, exhibitors built the Expo Pavilion at their own expense to show their achievements in science, technology, culture, economy and society. The comprehensive World Expo is held every five years. The products on display at the special world Expo are specialized.

Many concepts of modern society have been inspired by the World Expo, such as department stores and new tourism concepts, such as playgrounds, resorts and entertainment clubs. Expo is different from trade promotion and investment exhibition, it provides the host with opportunities to show social, economic and cultural achievements and development prospects. Since the first World Expo was held in Britain, international metropolises are eager to win the honor of hosting the World Expo. Paris, France, has hosted the World Expo six times in 1855, 1867, 1878, 1889, 1900 and 1937. The famous Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 Paris World Expo, and it is still a symbol of France and Paris.

The World Expo has a long history, but it has never been held in Asia. So Expo 20 10 is the honor of all Asians. Our government has promised that this will be the best government. As a host city, Shanghai will have more opportunities for rapid development. As a Shanghai student, I should learn English well, so that I can become a volunteer for the World Expo and help foreigners learn more about Shanghai.
