We are the second company of the guard battalion. At first, we were mainly engaged in security work. For the "724" project, almost all of them are now diverted.

Speaking of which, you may not be able to do it. The guard battalion is a huge reinforced battalion, with 9 companies under its jurisdiction. It's called camp. Together, it's bigger than a ball. So we don't call it an instructor, we call it a political commissar.

The initial establishment was much smaller, with only four companies, with guards from one company to the fourth. Later, due to the need of work, it may be a temporary need. An engineering company was added to build the road.

A cavalry company was established for many outposts in the mountainous area. Later, in order to meet the needs of supporting construction, train companies and loading and unloading companies were temporarily added, with a large number of people and a huge system.

This so-called guard battalion is responsible for almost all the work of the headquarters from the protected area to the restricted area. From sentry guard to national defense construction, from warehouse storage and delivery of materials to rushing to load and unload, this battalion has completed it.

In terms of the number of people, it has long been the establishment of a regiment, so our political head is called the political commissar, while the military head is still called the battalion commander.

All the troops entered the restricted area except the security company, which continued to be responsible for the security task of the headquarters.

The cavalry company is responsible for the duty of all hilltop posts in the restricted area; The second company, the third company and the fourth company of guards were all converted into construction companies; Responsible for building houses, digging caves and repairing railways. Needless to say, the engineering company was established at the beginning to build roads, as well as train companies and loading and unloading companies. Its main task is to focus on railway transportation and loading and unloading services.

When I got up early in the morning, the air was very tense. The troops concentrated on the big playground of the technical support station, and the battalion leaders and relevant departments also came. They are responsible for convening a mobilization meeting.

The political commissar stressed that the urgent need for the "724" national defense project was given to us by the Ministry. All soldiers must learn the necessary skills in construction in a short time, including bricklayers, carpenters, ironworkers, sheet metal workers, mechanics and so on. , with special emphasis on confidentiality rules.

After the mobilization meeting, all companies are making preparations before construction. We only knew how important it was to keep secrets before, but we didn't know what we did.

Later, I learned that the base was established with the help of Soviet experts, who all went to large and small gullies in the restricted area.

I think this place is more suitable from the establishment of the factory to the assembly, storage and delivery. There are few people here, all large and small gullies, and there are very few people at ordinary times. As long as a secret road is built, the "finished product" can be transported and stored stably.

At that time, the main leaders accompanied Soviet experts to choose this address. The bases built one after another have been built for several years. Since the road was repaired, many large and small caves and ancillary facilities have been built in the technical support station. Now the "724 Project" is the most important link in the follow-up.

"Project 724" is actually an assembly workshop and a storage warehouse.

After several days of adjustment, our security company has become a veritable engineering company. There are carpentry classes, bricklayer classes, air conditioning classes and mechanical classes in the company.

Because the company has been transformed into a construction unit, it has a set of work clothes more than ordinary soldiers. In that poor era, food expenses were high and subsidies were relatively high. The reasons for high wages are high prices and subsidies for plateau subsidies.

The construction advance team consists of veterans with rich construction experience. They go up first and clean up the working surface at the construction site.

The construction site is on a hillside about two kilometers away from our company's residence.

This road was repaired a long time ago, and it was built by the brothers of the engineering company along the winding stream.

They cut down the right hillside near the river and cleaned up the gravel blown into the ravine, thus forming a simple road paved with fine stones from the company station to the construction site.

The road extends halfway up the mountain. This road is about 3 meters wide, just enough for a car. There will be an emergency parking area every few hundred meters. If a car gets off, you will meet it there.

The cave has been drilled to15m, which is the working face left by the engineering company last year. In order to continue to build roads in the restricted area, they withdrew at the beginning of the year. What is left by the roadside is the simple board houses and tents they used when building. The thin walls and triangular cracks torn on the tents seem to tell the hardships of their construction.

These facilities have now become our warehouses and continue to play a role.

This year, we will continue to go deep into the mountains along last year's construction face.

First, explosives were brought in, and car after car filled the cave on the right side of the company.

This cave is very long, winding about 3 kilometers, and it is specially used to store explosives. The aisle is about one person high and two people wide. Tall people have to bend over to walk.

Not far away, there will be a big warehouse. The warehouse space is tall and large, all reinforced with reinforced concrete. There are probably dozens of warehouses in the whole cave. In the spacious warehouse, wooden boxes filled with explosives are neatly stacked together from bottom to top, as well as fuses and other materials. Detonators are placed in other warehouses more than 300 meters away from here and cannot be stored with explosives.

Some caves are also filled with American-made TNT explosives, which are rusty rectangular tin cans. It seems that they are all products from a long time ago, and some of them have obviously expired, but they are still here.

The newly unloaded explosives were made in North Korea, and the wooden boxes made of white pine were filled with Korean characters, giving off the unique fragrance of pine trees.

From the broken wooden cases, we can see neatly packed cylindrical explosives, all wrapped in yellow oil paper, mainly for waterproof and moisture-proof.
