The slogan on the playground of Tsinghua University and Western University is: "Without sports, there is no Hua."

The West District Gymnasium located next to the West University Playground of Tsinghua University is one of the famous "four major buildings" in the early days and can also be called the "grandfather" of Tsinghua's sports facilities. Its front hall was built in 1919, and the back hall was expanded in 1931. There are basketball courts, handball courts, suspended runways, heating and hot air drying equipment in the museum; the indoor swimming pool is disinfected and is very clean and hygienic. This was unique among Chinese universities at that time, and Tsinghua people had long been proud of it.

The West District Gymnasium has always been an important place for indoor sports activities and competitions for teachers and students. As the cradle of the development of Tsinghua sports, it has brought together a group of pioneers and elites in the Chinese sports community and has trained tens of thousands of outstanding talents with sound bodies and coordinated mind and body for the country. At the Fifth Far Eastern Games held in Shanghai in 1921, the Chinese basketball team participated by Tsinghua students won the championship. At the 1933 National Games, Tsinghua athletes won multiple championships.

The West District Gymnasium, the playground of Tsinghua University, is also a favorite gathering place for Tsinghua students and is closely connected to many major historical events. This was a school-wide sports meeting in the 1950s. Principal Jiang Nanxiang greeted the marching students on the second-floor platform. The slogan "Fifty years of healthy work for the motherland" has influenced generations of Tsinghua people.

After the cold and heat of spring and autumn, the Western District Gymnasium, which is almost octogenarian, is still full of energy. He is not only like an old man who has gone through vicissitudes of life, silently guarding the past of Tsinghua University; he is also a heroic and high-spirited young man who, together with the young students, is running towards the new century and the new future in the fiery youth.
