Most people have heard of the Gutian Conference, but few people can explain clearly what the Gutian Conference was. The Gutian Conference was held by the Fourth Red Army in December 1929. The Ninth Party Congress was held in Gutian, Shanghang County, Fujian Province from October 28th to 29th.

It used to be inconvenient to go to the Gutian Meeting Site, but after the opening of the Ganruilong Railway at the end of 2015, a special Gutian Meeting Site Station was opened. The Gutian Conference Site is one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. There are only 180 national protection sites in the first batch, of which 33 are revolutionary sites and revolutionary memorial buildings.

The venue is a single-story Xieshan courtyard-style Qing Dynasty ancestral hall built in 1848. It was originally called the Liao Ancestral Hall.

After the Republic of China, this was the site of Hesheng Primary School. In May 1929, the Red Army entered western Fujian and changed Hesheng Primary School to Shuguang Primary School based on the "Young Pioneers Team Song".

The Gutian Conference is the ninth party congress of the Fourth Red Army, a party congress of the front army. Why does it have such a big impact? I think there are two reasons. First, the meeting clarified the principles of the party's leadership of the army and established some basic systems and measures for the party to lead the army. It was an important meeting for the Red Army to clarify its direction in the early days.

Another important reason, in fact I think it is the main reason, is the people who participated in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Chen Yi and elected Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Chen Yi, Li Renyu, Huang Yishan, Luo Ronghuan, Lin Biao, Wu Zhonghao, Tan Zhenlin, Eleven people including Song Yuhe and Tian Guixiang were members of the front committee, and Mao Zedong was re-elected as secretary. It was similar in nature to the Zunyi Conference.

More than 120 people attended the Gutian Conference, including party representatives at all levels of the Fourth Red Army, soldier representatives, representatives of local party organizations, and women representatives. The venue was in this primary school at that time.

The meeting summarized the experience and lessons in military construction since the establishment of the Fourth Red Army, established the basic principles for the construction of the people's army, declared that "China's Red Army is an armed group that performs revolutionary political tasks," and reiterated The Party implements the principle of absolute leadership over the Red Army and opposes any excuse to weaken the Party's leadership over the Red Army. Zhongxing Hall was built in the 10th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1805 AD). The stone flagpole in the courtyard was erected for Liao Zhanchun, a tribute student.
