Nowadays, college students pay due attention to frugality, but there are still some problems, such as self-esteem, coveting comfort, satisfying vanity and pursuing enjoyment, and lacking the spirit of thrift.

Diligence and thrift have always been a fine tradition of the Chinese nation. However, with the continuous improvement of material culture, some college students blindly pursue brands, which leads to comparison and luxury in life. The author believes that it is particularly important to study the extravagance and waste among college students at the moment when thrift is strongly advocated and a conservation-oriented society is built.

First, the basic situation of college students' extravagance and waste behavior

With the substantial improvement of living standards, a series of problems have emerged, but among modern college students, the awareness of saving tends to lag behind. After students enter the university campus, they have greater economic autonomy and diversified consumption structure and varieties. At the same time, it is also accompanied by the waste of comparison. The author conducted a survey on this and found that when asked about the most common waste phenomenon of college students, "canteen leftovers, unreasonable online shopping and waste of daily water and electricity resources" topped the list. It can be seen that the frugality concept of contemporary college students is relatively weak, and it is also easily influenced by the surrounding environment.

Second, the reasons for college students' extravagance and waste

The most intuitive data can often be obtained by field observation and visit. The author interviewed some leftover men and women at random in the canteen. "In fact, this is quite wasteful, but taking the leftovers back to the dormitory is afraid of classmates' jokes and humiliation. "Some students said,' Aunt gave too much' and' The food in the canteen is not delicious'. To some extent, their answers reflect part of the reasons for the wasteful behavior of contemporary college students. Through the author's field observation and case interview, combined with the collation of literature, the following reasons are summarized for college students' wasteful behavior.

(A) lack of understanding of thrift, frugality concept is weak. Nowadays, college students grow up in a superior environment, have no intuitive understanding of poverty, and naturally have less understanding of thrift. In addition, in recent years, the publicity of thrift in social media has decreased, and some media even strongly advocate that people learn from western countries to spend more and spend more in advance to promote social needs. These arguments have influenced the consumption behavior of college students, leading to the dilution of their frugality consciousness. According to the author's understanding, some college students often overspend their living expenses because they have not established a sense of thrift.

(2) extravagance and waste are serious, and the wind of comparison prevails. In recent years, some people who spend money like water, some government agencies or leaders spend public funds to eat and drink, and some individuals waste natural resources wantonly, which have impacted the thoughts of college students, resulting in their lack of understanding of thrift, leading to unrealistic consumption patterns, and the phenomenon of following suit and extravagance and waste is becoming more and more serious.

(3) Lack of correct values and consumption views. At present, China is in the primary stage of market economy development. Although people's material resources have been greatly satisfied, the law and order of market operation are still not perfect. In addition, due to the influence of money worship and hedonism in society, some college students' consumption concept began to tilt, which led to college students easily losing themselves in consumption behavior and forming bad living habits.

(D) The infrastructure of some schools is not perfect. Intelligent management of hydropower resources has been applied in many colleges and universities, and voice-activated light-controlled lamps and intelligent hydropower equipment should become common equipment in modern university campuses. Now, most schools pay attention to improving the quality and level of teaching. In addition to teaching, school management should also include the management of students' lives.

Third, measures to improve college students' extravagance and waste behavior

At present, China is in a period of social transformation, and its rapid development leads to impetuous people. Some college students lack faith, deviate from their values, and blindly follow some decadent western values and unhealthy trends such as local hedonism and bureaucracy. In addition, with the enrichment of material life, the consumption structure and consumption concept of college students have also changed. In order to guide college students to establish frugality awareness, learn scientific consumption and green consumption, combined with practical research results, we believe that we can improve college students' extravagance and waste behavior from the following aspects:

(1) Establish a scientific concept of consumption and learn to manage money. To improve the extravagance and waste of college students, we must first enhance their awareness of saving, establish the concept of sustainable development, and further carry forward the traditional virtues of thrift of the Chinese nation; Secondly, vigorously publicize the importance of building a conservation-oriented campus and enhance college students' sense of urgency and responsibility. Finally, guide college students to learn how to manage money and handle personal finance scientifically.

(2) Make rational use of the new media platform and strengthen the education of thrift virtue. Nowadays, new media has become an important platform for college students to socialize. College students often get information through the internet, pay attention to hot spots and participate in discussions in time. The network has an important influence on carrying forward and cultivating the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation. Schools should vigorously advocate frugality in campus newspapers and websites, make use of the powerful influence of the internet to enhance students' frugality awareness, and promote students to become self-media capable of effective publicity through virtue education.

Through interviews with college students, most students said that there are endless literary and artistic activities on campus, but there are few publicity activities such as "frugality". Even if they are held, it is difficult to achieve the expected purpose of the activities. As a public organization closely related to student groups, student associations should undertake this responsibility and actively carry out related activities, such as holding lectures, posting slogans, opening flea markets and organizing students to visit.
