"Wetland Protection Law of People's Republic of China (PRC)" refers to the wetland

The term "wetland" as mentioned in this Law refers to natural or artificial areas with perennial or seasonal water accumulation and waters with remarkable ecological functions, including waters with a water depth of less than six meters at low tide, except paddy fields, artificial waters used for aquaculture and tidal flats. The state implements classified management and directory system for wetlands.

People's Republic of China (PRC) Water Law, People's Republic of China (PRC) Flood Control Law, People's Republic of China (PRC) Water Pollution Prevention Law, Marine Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and People's Republic of China (PRC) Yangtze River Protection Law are also applicable to the protection, utilization and related management activities of rivers, lakes and sea wetlands. Wetland protection should adhere to the principles of protection priority, strict management, systematic management, scientific restoration and rational utilization, and play a variety of ecological functions such as water conservation, climate regulation, environmental improvement and biodiversity maintenance. The competent forestry and grassland authorities in the State Council are responsible for the supervision and management of wetland resources, formulate wetland protection plans and relevant national standards, and supervise and manage the development and utilization of wetlands and the ecological protection and restoration of wetlands. The State Council natural resources, water administration, housing and urban-rural construction, ecological environment, agriculture and rural areas and other relevant departments shall undertake the related work of wetland protection, restoration and management in accordance with the division of responsibilities.

The competent departments of forestry and grassland in the State Council shall, jointly with the competent departments of natural resources, water administration, housing and urban construction, ecological environment, agriculture and rural areas in the State Council, establish a wetland protection cooperation and information notification mechanism.

The following acts of destroying wetlands and their ecological functions are prohibited:

(1) Reclaiming and draining natural wetlands and permanently cutting off the water source of natural wetlands;

(two) unauthorized landfill of natural wetlands, unauthorized sand and soil;

(3) Discharging industrial wastewater, domestic sewage and other wastewater and sewage that pollute wetlands, dumping, piling up, discarding and scattering solid wastes;

(four) overgrazing or indiscriminate mining of wild plants, overfishing or extinct fishing, planting and breeding activities in excessive fertilization, using pesticides, bait and other polluted wetlands;

(five) other acts that destroy wetlands and their ecological functions.
