Since 2002, China has changed the week of safe production into the month of safe production. In 2002, Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China and state administration of work safety decided to hold the first safety production month in June 2002 based on the current situation of safety production and summing up their experience, which expanded the form and content of safety production week.

This is an important measure for the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to publicize a series of safety production principles and policies, popularize the knowledge of safety production laws and regulations, and enhance the safety awareness of the whole people.

The purpose of this activity is to eliminate the hidden dangers of accidents around us to the maximum extent, curb the occurrence of serious accidents and promote the stable improvement of the safety production situation. Guided by Theory of Three Represents, the activity carried out the policy of "safety first, prevention first", highlighted the theme of "safety responsibility is more important than Mount Tai", and popularized safety production laws and regulations and safety knowledge.

In order to further strengthen the responsibility system for production safety at all levels and posts and truly fulfill the responsibility for production safety, the theme of the activity is "Safety responsibility is more important than Mount Tai".

In addition, the "Safe Production Miles: Activities" was launched, and safety inspections continued in all regions of the country. Enterprises carried out self-inspections on safe production, focusing on system construction, compliance with rules and regulations, and operation of equipment and facilities.

The person in charge of the relevant departments of the State Administration of Work Safety pointed out that in previous years, except for weekends, the safety production week only lasted for five days, so it was difficult to arrange some important publicity activities covering the whole country, so that the basic requirements of the party and the state on safety production were fully and effectively publicized and produced due results. Therefore, after careful consideration by various departments, the week was changed to month.
