Significance of Tianezhou Elk Nature Reserve

Elk is a unique large herbivore in the wetland ecosystem in the eastern monsoon region of China, which is a dual heritage of local nature and culture. "There is a cloud dream, and the elk is full." Vividly conveyed the information more than two thousand years ago. As the place where the elk return to nature, this nature reserve has the largest natural population of elk in the world, and gradually spread to the surrounding natural wetlands, forming three relatively independent sub-populations. It is expected that in the near future, elk will be everywhere in Dihua Zhoutou on both sides of the Yangtze River, and they will live in harmony with human beings in the re-established natural habitat. Tianezhou Nature Reserve will also develop into the most distinctive wetland ecosystem reserve in densely populated areas in the eastern monsoon region of China.

According to the overall development plan of the reserve, the reserve will also take a series of measures to protect and restore wetland species and rebuild the habitat conditions of waterfowl in order to improve the biodiversity, naturalness and stability of the wetland ecosystem.

1998 after the devastating flood in the Yangtze River, the state and Hubei Province gave strong financial support to the nature reserve in order to improve its management and protection capabilities. The wall facilities have all been updated, and a comprehensive science popularization building is under construction. In the future, nature reserves will certainly open up new prospects and make due contributions in species protection, popular science publicity and education and eco-tourism.
