Dahai Road is an ancient commercial road from Dunhuang, Gansu Province to Turpan, Xinjiang, which was abandoned for a hundred years and little known.

Haidao flourished in the Qin and Han Dynasties and declined in the Tang and Song Dynasties. Due to the opening of the Maritime Silk Road, this ancient land commercial road with a long history was abandoned.

I am particularly interested in Yumenguan and Yangguan on this road. Because of her once prosperous scene, she often appears in the poems written by poets. For example, the most common expression "Why should Qiangdi complain that the spring breeze of the willows is not enough for Yumenguan" and "Liangzhou Ci" by Tang and Wang Zhihuan. "I advise you to drink a glass of wine more, and there is no reason to go out to Yangguan in the west." Tang and Wang Wei's "Send Yuan Er Shi An Xi" and so on, there are many poems that record these two place names in the past dynasties, which have been passed down to this day. Influenced by these two poems, I have always wanted to explore the situation in the poems. I have traveled between Hexi Corridor hundreds of times, but I have never witnessed the real existence of these two places. Now Yumen City is not the real address of Yumen Pass.

Looking back at the roots, Dunhuang is 9km to the west, with Yumenguan in the north and Yangguan in the south, which are the passes of two commercial routes leading to the western regions, and are also the battlegrounds of military strategists in past dynasties, which is very important.

? According to historical records, the Qin and Han Dynasties unified China and accumulated the strength of the Central Plains Dynasty. By the second century BC, in order to defeat the Xiongnu, a nomadic kingdom that dominated the desert and harassed the farming residents in the Central Plains, the brilliant Emperor sent Zhang Qian to the Western Regions to contact the Dayue people who were driven away from Hexi by the Xiongnu and settled in the Amu Darya River area. Later, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty sent Zhang Qian to the Western Regions for the second time. Zhang Qian's two voyages to the west broke the monopoly of nomadic people on the Silk Road trade, and established direct trade relations between China and the kingdoms of Central Asia, South Asia and West Asia. The report brought back by Zhang Qian and others was also the first insight of China people into the outside world, and was written by Sima Qian and Ban Gu in Historical Records of Dawan and Hanshu's Biography of the Western Regions respectively, thus ending the mythical hearsay knowledge of the west in ancient China. It is precisely because of the historical importance of Zhang Qian's pioneering work that people call Zhang Qian's communication with the Western Regions "hollowing out".

? The direct consequence of Zhang Qian's westward journey was to urge the Han Dynasty to defeat the Huns. As a result, the Han Dynasty not only established four counties of Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiuquan and Dunhuang in the Hexi Corridor, but also sent troops to Dawan, west of Congling, to obtain the heavenly horse that Emperor Wu dreamed of-the bloody horse. By 6 BC, the Han Dynasty had established the Western Regions Duhu in the Western Regions and controlled the Tarim Basin. The envoys of the Han Dynasty can be supplied by various oasis kingdoms in the western regions, making it easier to travel westward. The envoys face each other on the road and have frequent contacts.
