What was your scariest experience while camping or hiking?

I don't have any stories about "I face terrible animals". Then what's mine?

A person without a companion.

Don't get me wrong, this is self-imposed. And I have camped dozens or even hundreds of times in my life. But these people are always at the campsite or with other people around me.

No, I'm going to a state park this time. There are several places where I can practice backpacking. They are not far from the parking lot, about 1/2 miles. However, even that parking area is far from the regular camp.

So, I put all the equipment together. Basically, if I forget something, it's a way to make me "good". I went in, set up my tent and inspected the area. By the way, this is a photo:

This is a beautiful place. I found a fallen tree, decomposed a few pieces of wood, cut a few small pieces with a knife and lit a small fire. Take a walk on other roads. Found another place for backpacking. Make dinner. Took some photos.

A few hours later, I got there and heard someone coming. Three young people, about 20 years old, are walking near my home. I can't see any other equipment except one with a cooler. They asked where the other site was, and I pointed out the direction. At first, it was a little disturbing: it was just me and these three guys, and there was no one else around. Other hikers came up with the idea that most other animals were not worried. Others are the real worries.

But in this case, they thanked me and the rogue. So, in this case, for me, there is no need to worry on the whole.

Then it began to turn black. My fire went out. Although I have a flashlight, I actually have nothing to do. As a backpacking place, there is actually no place to sit. So I climbed into the tent and lay there.

It's getting dark, and I can only feel it. I think I smell it too, but I don't think so. )

When you are far away from humans, the sacred objects will become loud at night. Perhaps because I can't see anything, my ears have become very sensitive. (or both. )

Suddenly feel "damn, I'm so lonely here!" " " ? Hit you. Yes, three people with coolers are hundreds of yards apart. I occasionally hear their voices. But can I hear many other things? I tried to determine what I was listening to.

Frog.

Insects.

An owl (I swear, it was nice to me for 5 minutes and shouted).

A cow (distant voice-wow!

Wolves in the distance.

Branches are broken or scurrying about on the ground cover. Sometimes it's far away, sometimes it's close.

At some point, a faint roar-not near, but not far.

However, I must stick to this logically and go beyond my emotions. When facing fear, you have a choice. Let it devour you, or face it.

I chose the latter. I realized, "I'm in a natural space. I'm an intruder here. At the same time, every night, when I am away, the animals around me are doing what they often do. I'm not what they want. They may check me when I am asleep, but there is nothing they can do (I was not in Bear Country). "

It took me some time to convince people, but I did fall asleep, stayed up all night and gave myself coffee and breakfast the next morning.

I'm glad to do this, because it helped me overcome my fears that I didn't even realize.
