Is there an anthology in the origin of Pian Wen Chao?
Pian Wen, which prevailed in the Han, Wei and Six Dynasties, was almost defeated in the literary world by the impact of the ancient prose movement in the Tang and Song Dynasties;
People in the Ming Dynasty liked to imitate the ancients, and parallel prose had no position. It was not until the Qing Dynasty that Parallel Prose was called Zhongxing, with not only
many famous artists, but also many excellent works. There is a
edition of Pian Style Anthology which has a great influence on the literary circles at that time and later generations, and this is Li Zhaoluo's Pian Style Notes.
Li Zhaoluo (1769-1841) was born in Yanghu (now Wujin, Jiangsu). In the 1th year of Jiaqing (18
5), he was a scholar and worked as a county magistrate in Fengtai County, Anhui Province for seven years, and his political achievements were very good. Later, on the grounds of his father's death, he left his official position to concentrate on his studies and gave lectures at Jiangyin Academy for twenty years. Li Zhaoluo is very knowledgeable,
and pays attention to practicality. Therefore, besides Confucian classics, phonology and exegetics, he is also proficient in astronomy and geography, and once compiled
The Whole Map of the Unification of the Qing Dynasty, and so on.
In the first and middle period of Qing Dynasty, Tongcheng School, which regarded Cheng Zhu's Neo-Confucianism as authentic, rose as a literary world, and its representatives were Fang Bao, Liu Da
Mao, Yao Nai and so on. They took Zuo Zhuan, Historical Records and the eight great works of Tang and Song Dynasties as the norms, praised the ancient
writings as "literary unification" and severely opposed parallel essays. Yao Nai compiled a "Compilation of Ancient Chinese Words", which selected more than 7 ancient Chinese texts from Qin and Han Dynasties to Ming and Qing Dynasties, and compiled them into thirteen categories, in order to show his views on the paper, which had great influence. Later
with the revival of parallel prose, parallel prose writers also tried to gain a place in the literary world. At the end of Qianlong period, Sun Mei compiled
33 volumes of Si Liu Cong Hua, which collected the theories of predecessors and discussed them in detail, hoping to promote the style of parallel prose. Ruan Yuan, a student of Sun
Mei, insisted on "the distinction between writing and writing" and advocated "the theory of classical Chinese" to drive prose out of the forest of literature.
So the two factions argued furiously. At this time, there is a view
in the parallel prose school that advocates "the unity of parallel prose and prose". With Yuan Mei as the forerunner, Yuan Mei thinks that the odd-even number is just a natural phenomenon, and the parallel prose
is actually the same source but different streams. Although parallel prose has its advantages in rhetoric, parallel prose and prose should go hand in hand, just like < P > "the mountains stand tall and have two peaks, and the water exchanges".
After Yuan Mei, Li Zhaoluo clearly raised the banner of "Parallel Prose and Prose in One", and his Preface to Parallel Prose and Prose is the program to affirm this proposition. There are three viewpoints in this preface: 1. Odd < P > is born occasionally in Yin and Yang, and the two cannot deviate from each other. This is obviously a further elaboration of Yuan Mei's viewpoint of harmony between Yin and Yang.
Second, Parallel Prose and Prose are of the same origin, so it is not necessary to distinguish them artificially. The
basis of "Parallel Prose and Prose in One" is expounded from the change of style. Third, the yin and yang are all one-sided, so it is appropriate to use them alternately. In order to promote his viewpoint of "parallel prose
in one" and at the same time dissatisfied with the bias of "Pian Yue Bian", Li Zhaoluo compiled
this "Pian Ti Wen Chao" to carry out his own ideas, and secretly wanted to compete with "Pian Yue Bian Bian".
Pian Ti Wen Chao was compiled in the last year of Jiaqing (about 182), and more than 75
articles (including a few pre-Qin articles) were selected. Its style has four characteristics: First, it is innovative in classification, aiming at a higher level of integration of the traditional style classification. The book is divided into three parts, and each part is divided into stylistic categories.
The first part is actually an official document of each body, while the second part is a private account; Among them, the middle part is mostly serious articles such as argumentative essays and
narratives, while the lower part is lyrical articles with strong literary color. This kind of synthesis < P > is original in stylistic classification, and it is a very beneficial exploration to stylistic classification with the synthesis of < P > writings, advertisements and records first advocated by Zeng Guofan in A Hundred Miscellaneous Notes on the History. Second, the collection of Pian
style notes is very comprehensive, and the time range of receipt is roughly the same as Wenxuan. We know that
Selected Works is a literary work, while
Pian Ti Wen Chao has a wider selection, which can better reflect the overall development of prose in this historical stage. Third, Pian Ti Wen Chao contains prose, which is also to make clear the view that "Pian Ti Wen Chao is of the same origin". Compared with the portal view of Tongcheng School, this is much more accessible, and the selection of essays is more comprehensive than that of
A Compilation of Ancient Ci Poetry. Fourth, Li Zhaoluo's comments on the selected chapters are very precise,
analyzing the style, revealing the literary nature, or focusing on the whole article, or focusing on the origin.
By reading Pian-ti Wen Chao, you can fully appreciate the essence of Pian-ti, and have a deeper understanding of the origin and development of ancient Chinese prose in Tang and Song Dynasties
. In this sense, Li Zhaoluo's original intention of compiling books was achieved.
In recent years, Shanghai Bookstore re-photocopied this book according to the old edition of Tan Xian World Bookstore.
