What does gossip mean?

The formal title of gossip is "gossip" or "gossip". In English, gossip is gossip, which means "frivolous" and unfounded rumors. The contents of gossip news are mostly related to sex, violence and death, and can be classified into two categories: anecdotes and personal privacy.

There are three explanations for the origin of gossip news:

1. First, in Cantonese, the original meaning of gossip is gossiping and gossiping everywhere. In order to attract readers, entertainment news and paparazzi dig up the privacy of stars everywhere, so the news dug up in this way is called "gossip news".

2. Another theory seems to go back further, which can better reflect the spirit of gossip: the origin of the title of "gossip magazine" is that when the pornographic books and periodicals in Hong Kong were released in the early years, the extremely cool and eye-catching photos on the cover would be pasted with gossip pictures in key parts, which is similar to the mosaic effect. This kind of magazine reporting the private life of stars got its name, and the word "gossip" even derived adjectives and verbs from nouns.

3. Another story is that in order to increase business, some teahouses in the Republic of China posted all kinds of gossip on the outer wall of the teahouse in the shape of gossip, hence the name of gossip.

It is said that in Hong Kong, magazines devoted to spying on or discussing other people's privacy or insider information were all eight-karat, while Cantonese's eight-karat (8k) was close to gossip, so it was called "gossip magazine". It is also pointed out that in the early years, when pornographic books and periodicals in Hong Kong were published, eight diagrams were attached to the key parts of the cover photos, which was similar to the plaid effect to avoid legal responsibility, so this kind of magazine was called "gossip magazine".
