Is the plan really unable to keep up with the changes?

My video series "Planning from Typesetting" has been updated for more than 300 days, and it is very rewarding to plan every day. In the comment area, I have seen such a comment: What's the use of planning because it can't keep up with the changes?

Would you be disgusted if I saw such a comment? My answer is: no. Because to be honest, that's what I thought before I started making plans.

Judging from the literal meaning of "the plan can't keep up with the change", it is true.

Our life is always uncertain. Unless we live in the present, we never know what will happen in the next second.

Maybe you are drinking water as usual, but you can't wait to choke on the next bite, which you can't predict; Maybe you are on your way home as usual, but you can't predict when you step on a stone. Or maybe you are lying in bed watching TV and playing mobile phone as usual, but the earthquake comes unexpectedly, and you are caught off guard …

Since there are so many variables in life, there is obviously no need to make plans. Your plan can never keep up with the pace of change, so why make a plan? It's no use.

So in the past years, although I sometimes have the idea of making a plan, I can give up this idea decisively and easily when I think that "the plan can't keep up with the changes."

Over the years, I have been living in my comfort zone with the idea that I have every reason not to study and grow, and then wait until the variables come, complaining all day about why my luck is so bad and why my life is so unfortunate.

I finally made up my mind to learn to plan, because I want to buy more time. Writing this psychological process may turn into another article. But what I want to say here is that after learning to plan, I have a new understanding of the sentence "planning can't keep up with change"

After all, my previous understanding was too focused on results.

It is easy for us to focus on the result of things and ignore the process.

When "plan" and "change" collide, whether the "result" is good or bad depends on whether the individual can make full preparations before the change comes.

As the saying goes, "the enemy will block you, and the water will cover you." If you are not prepared, what do you stop when the soldiers come? Can anyone be a "general"? If you are not ready, what will you do to cover the water? Can you cover the water by grabbing a handful of soil? Enemy at the Gates, you should train your right-hand man in advance before sending troops; Enough soil should be prepared in advance to build an earth embankment so that it can be stopped when water comes. This is also the truth of "training soldiers for a thousand days and using them for a while".

Since "change" is inevitable, what we have to do is to make full preparations before the change comes. How to prepare? Only by finding goals and making corresponding plans can we gradually exercise our abilities.

For example, although we don't know when a fire will happen, or it will never happen in our life, can we conclude that we don't need to learn fire prevention knowledge and self-help methods? This is obviously impossible. If there is no accumulation of safety awareness and self-help knowledge, when faced with a fire, people who are unprepared will panic and don't know what to do, but they are more likely to encounter danger, while those who are prepared can face it more calmly and then find ways to save themselves, thus increasing their chances of survival.

Planning is not useless. Planning is to let oneself grow and exercise purposefully and prepare for change, so as not to be confused and bemoan the injustice of fate when the change comes.

Plans are always considered boring, useless and inflexible. Is that really the case?

Let's look at such an example.

Travel by car, set a destination, and there will be navigation to guide you to your destination. When there is traffic jam on the road ahead, the navigation will re-plan the route in time until you reach your destination. Even if navigation is unpredictable, such as road maintenance, we will try our best to adjust the route and finally reach our destination.

Did the destination change during the process? there will be no changes. Has the route changed? It has changed. Why has it changed? Because the actual road conditions are always changing, we must combine the current situation and experience to re-plan the route during driving.

Destination, like our goal, is the general direction of progress and growth. Only when you have a direction can you know where to work hard. Efforts without goals are just touching yourself, and efforts with clear goals are a kind of growth.

The route is just like our plan. The original plan was conceived by combining our own experience. Maybe it has some ability to face reality, but it is not enough. In the process of implementing the plan, we must make timely adjustments in combination with the current situation and newly gained experience, so that the plan can face the difficulties in reality and not deviate from the goal.

Only dynamically changing and adjusting plans can be called qualified plans.

Plan is not flexible, only flexible can gradually improve your plan.

Is the plan really unable to keep up with the changes? I really can't catch up, because no one ever knows what will happen in the next second. So you think this plan is useless? Not exactly.

For us, planning is to plan our growth path, find the direction of growth, exercise our ability and prepare for change.

When a person's ability is enough and changes, it will be regarded as an opportunity and a challenge by us; When a person's ability is insufficient, change will only be regarded as disaster and bad luck, and he will try his best to escape and dare not face it. The former will do its best and leave no regrets; The latter will only regret it afterwards.

So don't take "plans can't keep up with changes" as a reason to avoid growth. In today's fast-developing era, if you can't constantly improve yourself, you will eventually fall behind the times.

Planning our own future can make us more confident to face the future.
