Not long ago, our reporter walked into Liu Fang’s new home in Dijing Jiayuan Community, Baiyun District. The sunlight coming in from the balcony made the clean and tidy room particularly bright. Liu Fang, born in 1970, is originally from Hubei. When she was 5 years old, she and her mother came to Baiyun District with her father to support Guiyang's third-line construction. He was a first-level Chinese teacher at Baiyun No. 3 Middle School in Guiyang City, and is now a psychological counseling teacher at the school. Reporter: Although you have lost your eyesight, you are so optimistic, humorous, cheerful and strong. So what is the biggest pain you face?

Liu Fang: Actually, I am not very optimistic myself. I am optimistic and strong for others. When I first learned that I was sick, I had a huge psychological impact. I couldn't sleep at night. It was very painful to think about what my parents, children, and husband would do if I was really blind in the future.

When I encounter specific difficulties, I will also be very painful. For example, other teachers use pens to correct papers and homework books very quickly, but I have to get very close to see clearly. It feels so simple. How could it be so strenuous to do something? If I accidentally fell into a ditch while walking, I would feel so miserable.

As my eyesight continued to decline and my son grew older, I found that other pains were not pain. The most painful thing was not being able to see what the child looked like. Because the most selfless love in the world is maternal love. How can you show maternal love when the child cannot see it? After my son was six or seven years old, I didn’t know what he looked like. I heard others say that he was handsome and had thick eyebrows. Eyesight, but I can't see it.

Everyone has their own ideals, but since I can’t see, I can’t do many of the things I want to do, and I still feel very sorry.

Reporter: You wrote "Pomegranate Green" to call on society to pay attention to rural education and rural students. What do you think rural education needs now, and what should society and individuals do?

Liu Fang: I have been engaged in education in rural areas for 21 years, and I have a lot of feelings. Nowadays, the uneven development of education is most prominent in rural areas. Unlike schools in cities, which are very balanced in terms of teachers, hardware and equipment, etc.

I think rural education first needs teachers. Nowadays, many normal college students do not have a firm belief in teaching in rural areas. If every normal college student is unwilling to go to rural areas, how can the number of teachers in rural areas be balanced?

Secondly, public opinion should have more positive publicity for rural education. Nowadays, we always promote good famous schools and good famous teachers, but few people pay attention to why we cannot build a good school in rural areas and attract famous teachers to rural areas. Instead, a good teacher trained in the countryside is sent to the city, so public opinion ignores the promotion of rural education.

Third, rural students are in great need of care. In the class where I am now the deputy head teacher, 26 of the 44 children are left-behind children. When she was studying in Guiyang Normal College, Liu Fang was a little night blind, but she didn't pay much attention to it. In 1993, at the age of 23, she graduated and was assigned to Baiyun No. 3 Middle School (then named Maijia Middle School) as a Chinese teacher and class teacher. She was so focused on her work that she didn't take her night blindness seriously.

However, night blindness became more and more severe, and water ripples began to appear in front of my eyes during the day.

One day in August 1997, she came to the provincial hospital. "You are suffering from retinitis pigmentosa. This is a difficult problem in the world's medicine. She felt dazed and her legs and feet felt weak...

After returning home, Liu Fang did not tell her family about her illness. "Some pains will be magnified when spoken about, causing more people to suffer together." She works, does housework, and takes care of her children as usual, but as her eye disease worsens, she puts her dishes on the edge of the bowl or on the table. Myopia won't work either.

In 1999, Liu Fang's invisibility had spread from night to day. Wanting to see the most beautiful scenery before she went completely blind, she went to the World Horticultural Exposition being held in Kunming alone. To this day, she still remembers the scenery that took her breath away.

In 2000, her family learned about Liu Fang’s condition. In order not to worry her family too much, she worked hard to become stronger.

In 2006, Liu Fang applied for a disability certificate. But she believes that although her eyes are disabled, she can still work and take care of herself. "I didn't become blind all at once. Many living habits were formed slowly." She can now walk freely at home, wash clothes, clean and bathe the dog by herself. She doesn't look like a blind person at all.

Never give up the "three-foot podium dream"

"My elementary school teacher taught me love, my junior high school teacher taught me rigorous academic study and strict requirements, and my high school Chinese teacher taught me to love reading and books. Intoxicated with teaching, the college literature introduction teacher made me understand that I need to constantly cultivate myself." Liu Fang said that when she first started working, her goal was to "become a good teacher like the teacher I like."
