Eight Miles Underground——8 Mile

When I was looking for information about hip-hop, the name Eight Miles Underground popped up like a soap bubble. After understanding it, I discovered that it is a kind of underground battle competition. I don’t know if you have this feeling. Even those who sing hip-hop in China feel that their English is very good. My English teacher said that the most important thing in learning English is to speak it out loud. From that point of view, I admire these hip-hop artists. After all, they have to be much more courageous when it comes to learning English.

When I first heard this name, I felt strange. First of all, I can understand the Chinese hip-hop competition using "underground". What does "eight miles" mean? Obviously this is not a place name, just a foreign distance symbol. So what does this have to do with China? With such curiosity, I continued to press the search button. Then came my aha moment. I didn’t even need to read the synopsis of the story. Just seeing the man’s head in the poster, I instantly understood the meaning of Eight Miles.

At some point in the past, I was also crazy about Eminem. In 2014 or 2015, the singers he collaborated with some female singers became so popular that their ringtones were all over the street. This form of performance is almost the same as the domestic Phoenix Legend. Later I learned that girls sang hook and boys sang rap. The hook is responsible for the temptation, and the rap is responsible for the content.

This movie can almost be regarded as a biography about Eminem's first half of his life. How to keep practicing in the slums, how to live, and even make money to satisfy sexual needs, etc. This is a movie, oh, it turns out that the foreshadowing for the first hour or so is just for the last sentence of proud. Many obstacles are set up in the male protagonist's life, allowing the audience to watch him struggle like a trapped animal. Then he finally stepped out of the shadows and used the grandest carnival to highlight the majesty of the hero. What a cliche movie! I was feeling this way.

But almost every inspirational legend has such a plot. Heaven is going to entrust this person with a great responsibility, and he must sharpen his mind, slaughter his body, and then gain something. Unfortunately, many people, most of them, died that night when dawn came. Is suffering itself meaningful? Judging from the glorious cases that have survived, I think the answer is almost yes. Suffering is meaningful. Without suffering, he might not be where he is today. But is suffering what he wants? I'm afraid not? No one would be willing to bother themselves if they don't have to.

There are many forms of happiness, and obtaining happiness through hard work is probably the most difficult one. My high school teacher said that if there are other ways to go, people will never choose the most difficult one. This is human beings, this is the quality that makes us defeat other species and stand proudly at the top of the food chain.

This movie takes place in Detroit, and there are a lot of cold jokes and self-deprecation about it. Rape and murder occurred in abandoned rooms, there are no more jobs in the once glorious industrial city, and New York is an unattainable dream, and you have to go to the vagina to win. I carefully thought about the protagonist in it, and I was surprised to find that the protagonist himself may be the only one with a normal job. Because he needs money. Then I thought of the "Hip-Hop in China" competition. There is a joke about Gui Bian, jokingly calling him the only person on the stage who has five insurances and one housing fund. Work to live or live to work? I don’t know which one you will choose?

You choose your own path, and there are many ways to get there. There is no right or wrong, good or bad, superior or inferior. Ask yourself if it is what you want, and if so, try your best to stick to it. If that makes you unhappy, there's no point in persisting. If the mind is not free, what is the use of the body?
