How did you choose your major?

I’m a little embarrassed to say it, because I went to college “at the top of the line” and the schools and majors I applied for were selected based on the “lowest and coldest” criteria.

At that time, the scale of college enrollment had not yet expanded. Except for a few fresh graduates with excellent grades who could pass the exam that year, ordinary students often had to go through two to three years of repeated studies before they could pass the exam. I belong to that kind of average student. I was 52 points away from the score line in my freshman year. After repeating the exam for a year, I took the college entrance examination for the second time and was 18 points away from the score line. After repeating the study for another year, I passed the college entrance examination for the third time and passed the test!

The mood at that time could be described as a mixture of joy and worry. I am happy that after many years of practice, I have finally achieved success and passed the exam. What I am worried about is that the test scores are too low, there are too few schools to choose from, and the majors are too limited!

In those years, normal colleges were a less popular type of institution. Unless the scores were particularly low, people generally would not choose to attend normal schools. But my score is so low. If I apply to other colleges, it is unlikely that I will be admitted. Once I cannot be admitted, I will have to re-study again...re-study again, and then re-study again, and I will become an "old seedling"! To be on the safe side, I reluctantly filled in a local normal school in the first choice column.

Because it is a normal college, the majors available are Chinese, mathematics, foreign language (English), physics, chemistry, etc. Because foreign language majors and Chinese majors seem to be a bit more advanced, I filled in foreign languages ??in the first column of the major selection column and Chinese in the second column...

After filling in the volunteer application, the next step is to wait. The admissions process. Because they were the last batch to be admitted, the process seemed extremely long. At that time, I was also worried about whether I would not be able to get admitted if I had the cut-off score. It’s so old!

The notice was received in mid-August of that year. There was no doubt about the admission to the school, and the admission major was Chinese. The reason why I was not admitted to the foreign language major was that I failed the oral exam.

With the notification in hand, I couldn’t calm down. Although the major admitted to the school was not “ideal”, the “university dream” that I had been pursuing for many years had finally become a reality!

This is the whole process of choosing a major in college. Even though so many years have passed, when I think back now, I still feel a little uncomfortable: it was too difficult to take the exam back then, and I was lucky to have passed the exam. How can I be less ideal than ideal!

With the passage of time and the expansion of the college entrance examination year by year, the probability of students entering higher education has reached over 90%. This was something that was unimaginable back then.

Now, it’s the college entrance examination season again, and it’s time to fill in the application form. The results of the college entrance examination have been announced, and college entrance examination students are generally faced with the problem of how to choose a school and a major. I hope you can cherish the opportunity to further your studies and make rational and wise choices based on personal reality!
