Two thousand years ago, Qin Shihuang built a highway connecting three provinces. Why hasn't anything grown so far?

After Qin Shihuang unified the six countries, in order to strengthen the rule, abolish the enfeoffment system, implement the county system, and unify the currency, weights and measures and writing, thus completing the unification of China and laying the basic pattern of the feudal system in China. The political system he established has been used by rulers for more than two thousand years.

In addition to adopting the same system and changing the currency system, he also built many roads. The Chidao built in all directions with Xianyang as the center is like a chain, which binds the newly unified Daqin Empire into a whole.

One of the roads is still well preserved and has become a national key cultural relics protection unit, which is Qin Zhi Road.

Qin Zhi Road starts from Shaanxi (now Liang Wudi Village, Chunhua County) and ends in Inner Mongolia (now Mengjiawan Village, southwest of Baotou City). This road connects three provinces with a total length of more than 800 kilometers and a width of more than 40 meters. It can be said that it was the first expressway in the world at that time, and it was also an important traffic facility for guarding the frontier in the Qin Dynasty.

As we all know, if a road is not used and maintained for a long time, it will soon be overgrown with weeds and may disappear into the vegetation in a few years. However, Qinzhidao has a history of more than 2,000 years and has not been abandoned so far.

Nowadays, most roads are made of concrete or asphalt, and then compacted and leveled by machines, so that roads will not be eroded by vegetation. However, if it is not maintained for a long time, the pavement will crack and the vegetation will still grow tenaciously from the cracks. Concrete and asphalt roads are still threatened by vegetation erosion. Dirt road? How did the way of Qin survive to this day?

Some experts say that when the Qin Dynasty built the Qin Straight Road, the soil used was fried by fire, and the grass seeds in the soil were killed by high temperature. Without grass seeds, there will be no vegetation on the road. In addition, the soil used in Qin Zhi Road is not only fried, but also a lot of alkali is added by craftsmen. Even if grass seeds fall on it many years later, they can't survive on the road.

In addition to paying attention to materials, the Qin dynasty was also very strict with engineering requirements. Although there were no machines at that time, they could only be built by hand, but the whole Qin Zhi Road was compacted inch by inch by migrant workers. After the civilian worker was built, the government used a copper carriage to check the road, and ruts and depressions were not allowed. If they appear, the farmers who built this area will be killed. This avoids cutting corners to the greatest extent, which is also an important reason why Qin Zhidao can be preserved to this day.

Since the Qin Dynasty, Qin Zhi Road has been built. In order to defend against the enemies in the north, it was used to transport troops until the Qing Dynasty.

In the first year of Yuanfeng, Emperor Wudi toured Jiuyuan in the north and took Qin Zhi Road, which played an extremely important military role in this period. In the Western Han Dynasty, in order to resist the Huns, the maintenance of Qin Zhidao was strengthened. Later, when Zhaojun left the fortress, he also passed Qin Zhi Road. Up to now, there is the tomb of Zhaojun in Inner Mongolia along the straight road.

In the history of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin changed from defending to attacking Turks. When he conquered the Turks, he embarked on the road of Qin Zhi. Later, the territory of the Tang Dynasty expanded again and again, and Qin Zhi Road was an important traffic channel connecting the northern military towns.

During the Ming Dynasty, the Qin Straight Road was still in use, with the purpose of strengthening the defense against the north.

Even in the Qing Dynasty, although Qin Zhi Road was no longer used as a military facility, it became a civil and commercial road, but it was always full of traffic, and most of the caravans in the past relied on this road to obtain goods passing through the north and south.

Therefore, even after more than two thousand years, the Qinzhi Road is still barren and well preserved. This is the embodiment of the diligence and wisdom of the civilian workers in Qin dynasty, and it is also the result of careful maintenance by later generations.

Many people say that the construction industry in Germany is developed and envy the drainage facilities built in Germany a hundred years ago. There is no need to feel inferior, and there is no need to envy. The road built by our ancestors two thousand years ago is also very smooth now. We have inherited the hard work and wisdom of our ancestors, and we will certainly create greater miracles.
