East Germany is a joke.

As the most developed socialist country in the world, East Germany chose to merge with West Germany. One reason is that there are few socialist countries in eastern Europe, and East Germany is easy to become the target of public criticism. Another reason is that East Germany and West Germany are originally a country, and the people of the two countries have deep feelings and both hope to integrate as soon as possible.

After World War II, Germany was divided into East Germany and West Germany. As a Soviet area, East Germany implements the socialist system, while West Germany is a capitalist country. Because of the great differences between the two systems, the countries under the two systems are antagonistic and hostile to each other.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, because of the cold war between the Soviet Union and the United States, the Soviet Union eventually disintegrated, and many socialist countries were transformed into capitalist countries because of lack of political support.

At that time, as the most developed socialist country in the world, East Germany became the only socialist country in Eastern Europe, which caused panic among East Germans and made them afraid of becoming the target of western capitalist countries. So after careful consideration, they think it is better to merge with West Germany.

Moreover, although East Germany and West Germany were separated by a Berlin wall at that time, they had relatives. In addition, the western capitalist countries incited East Germany, so all East Germans have the will to tear down the Berlin Wall, resulting in very unstable domestic politics. A large number of East Germans left West Germany, and some even held demonstrations in the streets.

Moreover, at that time, because of internal contradictions and the cold war with the United States, the Soviet Union's control over East Germany was also weakening. Therefore, when East Germany knocked down the Berlin Wall, the Soviet Union could do nothing about it. The East German government just followed suit and merged with West Germany to form a unified Germany.
