1. Classical Chinese reading of Yueyang Tower

Yueyang Tower Fan Zhongyan (Song Dynasty) In the spring of the fourth year of Qingli, Teng Zijing was relegated to guard Baling County.

In the next year, the government was in harmony with the people, and everything was restored. The Yueyang Tower was rebuilt, its old structure was added, and poems and poems by Tang Xian and modern people were engraved on it, and I wrote a composition to record it. I watched my husband Baling's victory in a lake in Dongting.

Holding the distant mountains, swallowing the Yangtze River, the vastness of the water stretches across the endless horizon; the sunrise and sunset, the weather is myriad; this is the grand view of Yueyang Tower, which has been described by predecessors. However, it is connected to Wu Gorge in the north and Xiaoxiang in the South Pole. Migrant poets and poets often meet here, and the feeling of looking at the things is the same? If the rain is falling and the moon is not open; the wind is howling and the turbid waves are emptying; the sun and stars are shining dimly and the mountains are hidden; the business trip is not going well and the rafts are toppled and destroyed; the dusk is dark and the tigers are roaring and the apes are crying; if you climb the tower, then you will There are those who are nostalgic for their country, worried about slander and fear of ridicule, their eyes are full of desolation, and they feel extremely sad! When spring comes and the scenery is bright, the waves are calm, the sky above and below is a vast expanse of blue; sand gulls gather in the sky, golden scales swim, and the banks are covered with orchids and lush green.

Or when the long smoke disappears, the bright moon shines thousands of miles away, the floating light leaps into the gold, the silent shadow sinks into the jade, and the fishermen answer each other's songs, how wonderful is this! Climbing the tower will make you feel relaxed and happy, forgetting favors and disgrace together, drinking wine in the wind, and you will be overjoyed! Sigh! Why should I try to seek the benevolent heart of the ancients or do something different from the two? Don't be happy with things, don't be sad with yourself. If you live high in the temple, you will worry about the people; if you live far away from the rivers and lakes, you will worry about the king. It is also worrying to advance, and to be worried when retreating; but when will there be joy? He must say: "Be worried about the world's worries first, and be happy after the world's happiness!" Oh! Weisi people, who can I return to? It was September 15th, six years ago.

About the author Fan Zhongyan (989-1052), courtesy name Xiwen, was a native of Wuxian County, Suzhou (now Wuzhong District, Suzhou), a politician, military strategist and writer in the Northern Song Dynasty. After his death, he was given the posthumous title "Wenzheng" and was known as "Fan Wenzhenggong" in the world.

His father died when he was two years old, and he and his mother moved around with his stepfather (who was a minor official). He was promoted to Jinshi at the age of 26. Because he dared to speak out and give strong advice, he was repeatedly criticized and was not reused for a long time.

In the first year of Qingli (1041), he served as the deputy envoy of Shaanxi economic strategy and pacification. He adopted the strategy of garrisoning and consolidating border defenses so that Xixia did not dare to invade. At that time, there was a popular saying in the border fortress: "There is a model in the army, and Western thieves hear about it." Shocking words." In the third year of Qingli (1043), he was appointed as the governor of political affairs and proposed ten political reform plans, which were not tolerated by the conservatives. Therefore, he was allowed to be the governor of Zhouzhou, Dengzhou, Hangzhou, Qingzhou and other places.

During his sixty-four-year-old life, he unswervingly pursued his life ideals and political opinions, and was highly praised by his current generation and future generations. The articles and poems are both extraordinary and extraordinary, and they are the image and externalization of his aspirations and emotions.

There is "Collected Works of Fan Wenzhenggong" handed down from generation to generation. Anecdotes of Fan Zhongyan (Wang Yaohui) Before Fan Zhongyan entered the official career after becoming a Jinshi, his boyhood and youth were generally spent in a difficult life of struggling with hardships and eating indifferent meals.

In the early days of Jingde, Zhong Yan followed his stepfather to Zizhou (now Zibo, Shandong) and studied at Liquan Temple in Changbai Mountain. He only cooked porridge with corn every day, and after condensation, it was divided into four pieces, each in the morning and evening. Eat two pieces, and as for the accompanying dishes, there is no mention of them. Often you can only "cut off a few stems, add a little salt and eat them." When he was twenty-three years old, he learned about his life experience and wept and bid farewell to his mother. He went to Nanying Tianfu Academy (today's Nanjing) alone. From then on, until he passed the imperial examination, he lived an "unbearable" hard-working life for five years.

According to Zhongyan’s Chronicle, Zhongyan studied hard day and night at Yingtianfu Academy. He slept on his pillow without taking off his clothes for five years. At night or in a daze, he used water to fertilize his face. Often the porridge was not enough, and the sun began to fall. Food".

The seventy-third biography of "Song History" records Zhong Yan's life during this period, which is generally consistent with what is recorded in the "Chronology". In fact, even after entering the official career after becoming a Jinshi, his living conditions did not change much for a long time.

In his later years, Zhong Yan recalled his life during this period in "A Letter to His Disciples" and said: "When I was poor, your mother and I raised my relatives. Your mother worked hard, but my relatives did not taste the delicacies. Mitsuru." This should be true.

In the first year of Tianxi's reign, Zhong Yan had no savings and had to sell his only horse to replenish his capital.

Reference translation In the spring of the fourth year of Qingli, Teng Zijing was demoted to Baling Prefect.

In the second year, political affairs went smoothly, the people lived and worked in peace and contentment, and all kinds of abandoned businesses were started. So the Yueyang Tower was rebuilt, expanded to its original size, and the poems and poems of famous Tang Dynasty and modern people were engraved on it. I was asked to write an article to record this incident.

I think the beautiful scenery of Baling County is all in Dongting Lake. It connects the distant mountains and handles the water of the Yangtze River. It is vast and vast; it is sunny in the morning and cloudy in the evening, and has a variety of weather conditions.

This is the grand and spectacular scene of Yueyang Tower, which has been described in detail by predecessors. However, it leads to Wu Gorge in the north and Xiaoxiang in the south. Most of the demoted politicians and poets gathered here. The emotions triggered by seeing the natural scenery may be different, right? Like the continuous rain that never clears up for several months, the cold wind roars, and the turbid waves rush into the sky. The sun and stars hide their brilliance, and the mountains also lurk. Merchants and travelers cannot move forward, the masts fall, and the ships The oar was broken; the evening sky darkened, the tiger was roaring and the ape was mourning.

When you climb up this building, you will have feelings of being demoted from Beijing, missing your hometown, worrying about slander, and fear of ridicule. Yes. When the spring breeze is warm and the sun shines brightly, the lake surface is calm, there are no stormy waves, the sky and lake light are connected, and the sky is green; the gulls on the sandbank sometimes fly and sometimes rest, and the colorful fish swim (in the water); the grass and islands on the shore The orchids above are lush and green.

Occasionally, maybe the fog completely dissipates, and the bright moonlight pours down thousands of miles, shining golden on the lake. The moon shadow is reflected in the water bottom, like a submerged jade, and the fisherman’s song is singing between you and me. Such fun (Really) endless! (At this time) When you climb up this building, you will feel open-minded and refreshed. Your glory and humiliation will be forgotten. Holding a wine glass and blowing the breeze, it will be a joyous experience. well! I once explored the thoughts of people with noble moral character in ancient times. Perhaps they were different from the two manifestations (above). Why? (Because) It is not because of the good or bad external environment, joy or sorrow, nor because of the good or bad mood of oneself, happy or sad.

If you are in a high temple (at court), you are worried about the common people; if you are in a remote river and lake (in the wild), you are worried about the monarch. In this way (they) are worried when they enter the court and serve as officials, and they are also worried when they retreat to the world to serve the people.

So when will you be happy? He would definitely say, "Be ahead of others in worrying, and be behind in pleasure." ah. 2. A Trip to Shahu Classical Chinese Translation

1. Vernacular Translation

Thirty miles southeast of Huangzhou there is a township called Shahu, also known as Luosidian. I bought a few acres of land there and got sick because I went there to inspect the fields. I heard that Pang Anchang, a Maqiao man, was a good doctor but deaf, so I went to him to ask him to see a doctor. Although Pang Anchang was deaf, he was extremely intelligent. He could write a few words on paper before he could understand what others meant. I joked with him: "I use my hands as my mouth, and you use your eyes as your ears. We are both modern weirdos."

After recovering from the illness, we visited Qingquan Temple with him. Qingquan Temple is more than two miles outside Qishui County. There is Wang Xizhi's pen-washing pool there. The water is very sweet. There is an orchid stream below the pool, and the water flows westward. I composed a poem: "At the foot of the mountain, the orchid buds are soaked in the stream, the sandy road among the pines is pure and clear of mud, the rain is rustling in the evening, and the rain is crowing. Who said that there will be no more shortcomings in life? You see, the flowing water can still reach the west, don't sing the yellow rooster with your white hair." "That day, Pang Anchang and I drank very happily before going back.

Touring Shahu Lake

Thirty miles southeast of Huangzhou is Shahu Lake, also known as Luosidian. While I was about to buy a field, I fell ill because I went to the neighboring field. I heard that Pang An, a native of Maqiao, was a good doctor but was deaf. So he went to seek treatment. Although Anshi was deaf, he was extremely intelligent. Drawing words on paper, not numbers, often impresses people. Yu Xi said: "I used my hands as my mouth, and you used my eyes as my ears. They were all strangers for a while."

After recovering from his illness, he went to Qingquan Temple with him. The temple is about two miles outside the Guo Gate of Qishui. There is Wang Yishao's pen-washing spring. The water is very sweet. It is next to Lanxi River, which flows to the west.

Yu Zuo's song goes: "The orchid buds at the foot of the mountain are short and soaked in the stream, and the sandy road among the pines is pure and clear of mud. The rain is rustling at dusk. Who knows that there will be no more shortcomings in life? You see, the flowing water can still reach the west! Don't sing the yellow rooster with your white hair." That day , returned after drinking.

Baidu Encyclopedia - Su Shi 3. Translation of Traveling to Huashan Mountain

"Traveling to Yuhua Mountain" by Zhang Min Youyi, Song Dynasty Forty miles southwest of Jun County, there is a road between mountains, called Yuhua.

To the south is the Wild Fire Valley, where rocks are always burning. Looking at them is like smoke, but you don’t know where they are. To the west of Yehuo is called Fenghuang Valley, which is also the place where the Tang Palace was built.

Nowadays, there are only tiles and roof tiles left on the walls. If you pass by and look at it, you will see fields, weeds and hazelnut trees. Its west is called Coral Valley, and there is a separate palace in the building.

The north of the coral is called Lanzhi Valley. In the past, Emperor Taizong ordered Shamen Xuanzang to translate scriptures here. It was originally called Sucheng Hall, and later it was abandoned and became Siyun. There is a brand-new stone rock in the middle, and there is a chiseled room below, which can accommodate dozens of people. There is a spring hanging in the middle, as powerful as the rain; there are eighteen pines, surrounding the sides, all growing on the stone, which can be ten fathoms high, and the end is like a pen. .

There is a cliff called Zhuluan to the west and south of it. When you first enter it, the double walls are standing tall, as if they were made of cut stone. Once you get there, it is like looking at an urn. There is a spring flying down on the side, like hanging cloth or spraying beads, which is called water curtain.

Slightly to the north, there are cliffs and springs, which are also like this but slightly different. On Dingsi day of the fifth month in the summer of the third year of Zhiping, I and six other people came to visit. They sat together on a stone in the shade of the pines, listened to the spring and drank from it.

That's it, I wandered around the Forbidden City and asked Mr. Tian about his legacy. Fang Xiaoran didn't want to go back, but the remaining six people were either guarded by officials or tied up with other affairs, so they couldn't stay for a long time, so they left after spending the night.

However, there is something wrong with looking at each other. Yu Wei said: The pleasures of mountains, forests, springs and rocks, and the wonders and wonders of travel, are often found in remote places, far away from human traces, so they must be occupied by wild monks, alchemists and people who live in secluded areas.

However, people who are lurking in the dark know what they like but are not strong enough to support it. However, the words of Buddhas and elders can move people, so they always have the strength alone, and the entertainment of looking at the dangerous pavilions and vast buildings is all for them. First. In the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty, when the wealth of the world was poor, a palace was built here, but it was later abandoned. However, Du Fu was a man of his time, and he felt sad about it, which may be reflected in his songs.

The disciples of the single-monastery monks have been passed down from generation to generation and still exist to this day. How can the whole world succumb to this? Taizong's virtuousness and the beauty of his governance should be spread over time. Now when I ask the elders, there is nothing to praise. Xuanzang, on the other hand, had the ear of a pagoda. However, his words were extremely bizarre and difficult to understand, in order to aggravate his story.

How is it that people are often willing to be eccentric and easy to forget about being upright? How can it be that things have their own times of prosperity and decline, but this is also the time of their prosperity? Si Ke sighs for it. If Taizong's virtuousness and the strength of the world cannot last forever, then it is enough for me to watch him for a while, so why should I hate him if I stay for a short time?

However, despite the rugged cliffs, poor valleys, and the depression of the ruined palaces and ruins, despite the passage of time, only one or two people have visited, and the rest and six people came at the same time, which can be said to be prosperous. ! Six people: Yu brother Zijian, brother Shanjing, together with Taiyuan Shijihe Gongmei, Hedong Langji Kangbo, Wenling Chenshuo Junyu, Xihejishang Guanqingye. Renshen, Yingyang Zhang Minji.

Translation: Walking forty miles southwest from Yijun County, there is a road between mountains. This is Yuhua Mountain. The south side of the mountain is called Wild Fire Valley, where there are rocks that burn all year round. Looking up (the mountain) from a distance looks like smoke, but no one knows where it comes from.

The west side of Yehuo Valley is called Phoenix Valley, which is the old place where palaces were built in the Tang Dynasty. Now not even a small section of wall or tile has been preserved. When you pass by it, you can see that it is all wild fields and grass and covered with thorns.

The west side of Phoenix Valley is called Coral Valley. There probably once was a palace there besides the main hall. The north of Coral Valley is called Lanzhi Valley.

There is a high and steep natural rock in the middle of Lanzhi Valley. There is a man-made stone chamber underneath, which can accommodate dozens of people. There is a waterfall hanging down from the height, like heavy rain falling from the sky; there are eighteen trees. Pine trees surround the rocks. The pine trees all grow on the rocks. They are almost 18 feet tall and as straight as an upright pen. There is a stone cliff called Zhuluan in its southwest direction. When we first entered, we saw the double walls towering and upright, as if they were made of cut stone. When we got to that place, it looked like we were seeing an urn.

There are springs cascading down next to it, some like hanging waterfalls, and some like spraying pearls. Its name is water curtain. Slightly to the north, there are cliffs and springs, similar to this but on a slightly smaller scale.

On Dingsi day in May in the summer of the third year of Zhiping, six people and I came together to play. We sat on a stone under the shade of pine trees, listened to the sound of the spring and drank the spring water. Not long after, he visited the palace of the previous generation and lingered over it, and asked the old man in the field about the past.

I was very interested and noisy and didn't want to go back, but among these six people, some of whom were serving as officials, and some of whom were restrained by something, we couldn't stay for a long time, so we stayed one night and left. However, everyone looked at each other with dissatisfied expressions.

I said to them: The pleasure of appreciating mountains, forests, springs and rocks, and the strange and magnificent landscapes, are often found in remote and inaccessible places. However, because they are inaccessible, they must be visited by wandering monks, magicians seeking immortality, and Hermits occupy and enjoy it. But the hermits know that these places are beautiful and like them, but their ability is not enough to manage these places. Only the doctrines and teachings of Buddhism and Taoism are enough to move people's hearts, so their believers often travel alone and have courage, so these towering pavilions , spacious buildings, and the pleasure of climbing to the top and seeing the sights, there is no one that they cannot but take advantage of.

With the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty, the wealth of the world was exhausted, and palaces were built here, which were then abandoned and forgotten. Du Fu was a person of that era. He felt sad when passing there, so he expressed it in poetry. come out. Only people like the monks in the temple have been passed down from generation to generation without stopping, and they still survive until now. (From this point of view) Even the emperor who has the power of the whole world is inferior to these monks? Relying on Tang Taizong's virtuous talents, the country reached the beautiful situation of peace and prosperity. (His deeds) should be passed down as time goes by. Now I asked the old man about Taizong's political achievements and past events, but I didn't hear any words of praise.

Xuanzang was just a monk, but the people who told Xuanzang's story even used absurd and weird words to exaggerate his story. Could it be that it is human nature to like to indulge in absurdity and go evil, but is it easy to forget the right way? Or could it be that the ups and downs of things also have their own destiny, and is this period just the prosperous era of Buddhism? This is really worth sighing about.

A man as virtuous as Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, with all the abilities in the world, cannot possess them for a long time. So we people can be satisfied with just one glance, so why should we regret that we cannot stay here for a long time? But in the desolate, deep and precipitous cliff valley, and the ruins of abandoned and crumbling palaces, even though many years have passed, no one or two people have come here to visit, and the fact that I and six people came here at the same time can be regarded as a grand event.

4. Classical Chinese "A Journey to Yueyang" Translated by Yuan Zongdao

From Shishou to Yueyang, the water of the Xiangjiang River is like a bright mirror, and the mountain peaks are like blue snails. We can't get enough of them through the windows in the boat. The most peculiar thing is that Mo Mountain only stretches for thirty miles. The boat traveled for two days and covered more than two hundred miles in total, still circling under the mountain. The sun rises from the mountains in the morning and sets in the evening, and the morning and evening glow shine in one place. Just because the river is surrounded by mountains, the boat travels around the mountains. Although it goes very fast, it only feels slow.

After passing Yueyang, we were about to visit Dongting Lake, but were stranded by strong winds. My younger brother Xiaoxiu wrote an article called "The Curse of the Willow Scholar", which contained many jokes. In the evening, the wind was very strong, and the waves were as white as snow. The water near the shore turned into white foam, and the boat almost capsized. The younger brother said: "Isn't this Liu Xiucai taking revenge on us?" I smiled and said: "It is common for brothers to joke around." So we all laughed.

The next day dawned, and the wind Then he stopped.

If you think it is good, please accept it, thank you 5. Classical Chinese translation of Peach Blossom Spring

Original text

During the Taiyuan period of Jin Dynasty, the people of Wuling were engaged in fishing. Walking by the stream, I forget how far the road is. Suddenly I came across a peach blossom forest, hundreds of steps along the bank. There were no trees in the middle, the grass was delicious, and the fallen flowers were colorful. Fishermen are very different. Going forward again, I want to exhaust the forest.

When the forest reaches the water source, there is a mountain with a small mouth, as if there is light. Then leave the boat and enter through the mouth. At first he was extremely narrow, but only then did he understand people. After walking for dozens of steps, I suddenly became enlightened. The land is flat and vast, with neatly built houses, fertile fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry trees, and bamboos. There is traffic in the streets, and chickens and dogs hear each other. Among them, people come and go, and the clothes of men and women are just like those of outsiders. His yellow hair hangs down, and he is contented with himself.

When he saw the fisherman, he was shocked and asked where he had come from. Have an answer. Then he wanted to return home and set up wine and kill chickens for food. Hearing about this person in the village, Xian came to inquire. Ziyun's ancestors fled the chaos of the Qin Dynasty and led his wife's people to this desperate situation. He never came back and was separated from outsiders. When I ask what era this is, I don’t know whether there was Han, Wei or Jin. What this person said one by one made everyone sigh. The rest of the people went to their homes again, where they all had wine and food. Stop for a few days and resign. The human language (yù) in this sentence goes: "It is not enough to teach outsiders."

After getting out and getting the boat, he helped the road and looked for it everywhere. When he reached the county, he met the prefect and said so. The prefect immediately sent people to follow him in search of his desired direction, but he became lost and could no longer find his way.

Nanyang Liu Ziji (jì), a noble scholar, heard about it and went there happily. Without success, he ends up seeking illness. After that, no one cared.

Translation

During the Taiyuan period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, there was a Wuling man who made a living by fishing. (A fisherman) rowed a boat along the stream and moved forward, forgetting how far it was. Suddenly I came across a peach blossom forest. Within a few hundred steps of both sides of the stream, there were no other trees in the middle. The flowers and grass were fresh and beautiful, and there were many fallen flowers on the ground. The fisherman was very surprised by this. (The fisherman) rowed forward again, wanting to reach the end of the forest.

The peach blossom forest disappeared where the stream originated. (There) I saw a mountain with a small hole on the side of the mountain, and there seemed to be a faint light. The fisherman abandoned his boat and went ashore and entered the small hole. At first, the entrance to the cave was very narrow, allowing only one person to pass through. The fisherman took a few dozen steps forward, and suddenly it became open and bright. I saw that the land was flat and wide, with neat houses, fertile land, beautiful ponds, mulberry trees and bamboo forests. The paths in the fields are intertwined, and the sounds of cocks and dogs can be heard (between villages). In the village, the people coming and going, the people cultivating and working, the men and women dressed exactly like the people outside the Peach Blossom Land, the old people and the children are all happy and enjoying themselves.

(People from Peach Blossom Spring) were surprised when they saw the fisherman and asked him where he came from. (The fisherman) answered them in detail, and the people invited the fisherman to their homes, where they entertained him with wine, slaughtered chickens, and meals. When the people in the village heard that such a guest had arrived, they all came to inquire about the news.

(They) themselves said that their ancestors (in order to) escape the wars of the Qin Dynasty, led their wives, children and fellow villagers to this place isolated from the outside world, and stopped going out, so they were isolated from the outside world. They asked (the fisherman) what dynasty it was now, and (they) didn't even know there was a Han Dynasty, let alone the Wei Dynasty and the Jin Dynasty. The fisherman told (the people in the Peach Blossom Spring) what he knew in detail one by one, and (they) were all amazed and regretful. The rest of the people invited the fisherman to their homes and entertained him with food and wine. The fisherman stayed there for a few days, then said goodbye and left. The people here told him: "(The situation here) is not worth telling the outside world!"

After the (fisherman) came out, he found his boat and followed the previous path Go back and mark everything (along the way). When the fisherman arrived at Wuling County, he went to see the prefect and reported the situation. The prefect immediately sent someone to accompany him to look for the mark he had made before. As a result, he lost his way and could no longer find the way to the Peach Blossom Spring.

There was a noble hermit named Liu Ziji in Nanyang. Hearing the news, he excitedly planned to go to the Peach Blossom Spring. It was not realized and he died of illness soon after. There will be no more visitors from now on. 6. Classical Chinese translation of Hejiang Pavilion

Translation:

The Yangtze River and Tuojiang River separated from the Minjiang River. Zhang Ruo and Li Bing guarded Shuzhou and began to build earthen walls to contain and block the river. Later, wide ditches were dug to divert the water to irrigate the land of Shu County and Guangzhou, and Shu County was already rich. Now the two rivers in Chengdu are tributaries of the Yangtze River and Tuojiang River, coming from the northwest and converging in the southeast of Sichuan, which is what is called Two rivers and two rivers. Tuojiu follows Nanhuang and flows eastward along with the Yangtze River.

In the Tang Dynasty, Gao Pian had just begun to dig a new canal, which went out to the north of Fucheng, but it still connected with the old ditch. In Zhugong, there was an old pavilion on the Hejiang River. It was the place where the Tang people held banquets, and poems written by celebrities were often there. Merchant boats and fishing boats are scattered here and there. Spring. In the morning or autumn evening, putting a pot of wine (on Hejiang Pavilion) and enjoying it while drinking is also a beautiful view of the city.

Soon the chief asked to record this matter. I think the land in Shu County has become an official canal and is not used for ponds and dais to house water. Therefore, the victory of Hanyang in Pi Lake is less than that in other places. In ancient times, people often used it as decoration to benefit from the land, and thus have the pleasure of sightseeing. Isn't it wonderful? ? This (idea) may be written down for future generations to see, probably because it is the confluence of two rivers and it may be emotional.

Author Lu Dafang

Lu Dafang passed the imperial examination and was transferred to Feng Yi as chief administrator and magistrate of Yongshou County. There are no wells in Yongshou County, so people have to go to distant valleys to collect water. The defense patrols nearby and get two springs, intending to divert them into Yongshou County. Because the terrain is uneven, everyone doubts that it will succeed.

Lu Dafang used the method of setting up springs in the water field to make it level. In less than ten days, it turned into a canal and the people relied on it. It was known as "Lü Gongquan".

Lu Dafang moved to Zuozuo Lang and Zhiqingcheng County. In the past, corn from the sacrificial fields was harvested with big buckets and released with public buckets, resulting in three times the profit. Although the people were dissatisfied, they did not dare to appeal. Lu Dafang began to release and bring in uniformly to equalize the value. This matter was forwarded to Song Renzong, who issued an edict to establish laws and regulations, and ordered all the items to be transported and rented to the government, and returned with general utensils. Qingcheng County controls Wenchuan and is connected with Xixia. Lu Dafang occupied important areas and set up patrols and secret defenses. He was prohibited from going up the mountain to cut firewood and picked trees, and was shielded by strict obstacles. Han Jiang guarded Shuzhou and said that Lu Dafang had the ability to assist the emperor in starting a business and governing the country. After entering the dynasty, he temporarily acted as the judge of salt and iron.

Lu Dafang is seven feet tall, with beautiful eyebrows and a voice as loud as a bell. He has been dignified and steady since he was a child, with no hobbies. He does not squint when passing through the market, and he lives his leisurely life as if he were receiving guests. At every court meeting, he looked dignified and solemn, and Shenzong often watched him off. He lived with Dazhong and his younger brother Dalin, and they discussed Taoism and etiquette with them. Weakuan's marriages and funerals all originated from ancient times. The Lu family should be regarded as the scholar of "Li" in the Guanzhong area.

Dafang once said in the "Country Covenant": "Anyone who agrees with the covenant should encourage each other in virtue and deeds, regulate each other in faults, keep in touch with etiquette and customs, and sympathize with each other in times of adversity. If they have good deeds, they will be written down in the book. If they have any mistakes, they will be like violating the township." The person who made the appointment was also written, and those who committed the crime three times would be punished, and those who did not reform would be extinct. Su Shi once went to visit his friend Lu Dafang. It happened that Lu Dafang was taking a nap, and Su Shi was waiting in the living room. But Lu Dafang was very good at sleeping. After waiting for two hours, Su Shi became furious and decided to take it out on Lu Dafang. Finally Lu Dafang got up and received Su Dongpo slowly. Su Shi said: "I took a look around your living room just now while you were taking a nap. Although the furnishings in your living room are very good, they are not as good as a turtle with three pairs of eyes."

Lu Dafang knew Su Shi wanted to tease him, but he didn't know where to start. He hesitated and said, "Where is the tortoise with three pairs of eyes?" Su Shi said: "During the reign of Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty, a minister presented a tortoise to him. Emperor Zhongzong asked him if the tortoise had three pairs of eyes. What are the benefits? The minister replied that if a tortoise has three pairs of eyes, it will naturally use three pairs of eyes to sleep, and it will naturally sleep three times longer than an ordinary tortoise."
