What is the difference between Haifeng and Lufeng?

Shanwei was originally a port town under Haifeng County. 1988, Guangdong Province adjusted the administrative division of Hailufeng area, and upgraded Shanwei to a prefecture-level city, which governs the city, Haifeng County, Lu Fengxian and Luhe County. In this way, Shanwei surpassed Hailufeng County and became Shanwei City.

Although Shanwei is a prefecture-level city, it originated from the history and culture of Hailufeng, so Shanwei people are also Shanwei people. Now the official popular saying is Shanwei, and people are used to calling it Hailufeng area.

Speaking of Shanwei, we have to talk about Shantou, which is the famous saying "Where there is Shantou, there is Shanwei". In fact, Shanwei and Shantou are only short-term subordinate relations. Shanwei and Hailufeng were under the jurisdiction of Huizhou in history. There are many similarities between Chaozhou dialect in Shantou and Fulao dialect in Hailufeng, but the customs of the two places are not the same. It should be said that Shantou and Shanwei are distant relatives and close neighbors.

Finally, once again, although Shanwei is a prefecture-level city, and both Hailufeng counties are under Shanwei's jurisdiction (Lufeng was managed by it after the city was established), its history cannot be separated from Haifeng County, which is a thousand-year-old county in Guangdong Province. Haifeng County was established at the beginning of Jin Dynasty, and Lu Fengxian was not established until the ninth year of Qing Dynasty. In modern times, people called Hailufeng two counties "Hailufeng", so Shanwei people are actually Haifeng people, that is, Shanwei people.
