Reading Notes-"Two Ones"

There are two little people fighting in one's life, one is diligent and the other is lazy. In primary school, diligent villains often beat lazy villains out of the water In junior high school, they tied. In high school, diligent villains were often beaten black and blue by lazy villains. Finally, they went to college. Because the diligent villain was killed, they stopped fighting.

This is a joke that my son and I often tell recently.

In fact, this is not just a joke. At any time in our lives, there are "two selves" vying for control over us.

Let's start with the structure of the brain.

We have some deep-rooted needs and fears, such as the need to be loved and the fear of losing the love of others; Need to live, afraid of death. These needs come from some primitive parts of our brain-the structure in the temporal lobe responsible for handling emotions.

Because these areas of our brain are invisible to us, it is impossible for us to know what they need and how they control us. These areas will simply deal with things and make instinctive reactions; These areas are eager for praise and take criticism as an attack.

Higher consciousness comes from our cerebral cortex, which is the advanced part of our brain. It can help us understand that constructive criticism is beneficial to us.

So, two "I" are fighting for control over us:

Let's see what happens when someone disagrees with us.

Because our brain structure makes us take such thoughts as attacks, we will become angry. Although our more reasonable response should be to be interested in each other's views.

When we try to explain our angry behavior afterwards, we can't understand it ourselves. This is because when we are angry, our emotions and subconscious control us, making it impossible for us to explain our behavior rationally. (Refer to my personal handling of contradictions).

Through repeated practice, we can form almost any habit and have a good habit of self-control, which can make us realize the desire of "higher self". For example, we get into the habit of going to the gym to exercise.

The book "The Power of Habit" says that the three-step "habit cycle" can play an important role.

If we really want to realize the desire of "higher self", we must decide which good habits to develop and then implement them.

A person's actions and thoughts will become habitual actions and thoughts if they are repeated for 2 1 day. If we can persist in a certain behavior 18 months, we will form a strong tendency to do it almost forever.
