"Giddens Ko" was originally the name of a song circulated among students in Ke Jingteng. However, Giddens Ko didn't become a nickname because of it, until a classmate handed a note with a yellow joke and Giddens Ko's signature to the lecturer Chen Jianhong when Ke Jingteng was tutoring Chen Jianhong's chemistry cram school. When Chen Jianhong asked who Giddens Ko was, everyone in the classroom pointed to Ke Jingteng and said it was Giddens Ko. From then on, Chen Jianhong called him Giddens Ko, and others followed suit, calling Ke Jingteng Giddens Ko. Later, Ke Jingteng went to college, and Ke Jingteng claimed that his nickname was Giddens Ko, because he didn't like being called by his name.
