Characteristics of Subei Plain Dialect

Subei dialect family: refers to the common language of the southern Jiangsu area west of Zhenjiang, all the central Jiangsu areas and the people in southern Jiangsu area. In the meantime, because I have only mastered some of them, some of them provide basic pronunciation methods. For your reference in interpersonal communication and study, I hope it will help. Of course, most northern Jiangsu dialects are still close to Mandarin.

First, pronunciation:

(1) initials: 1, h, w are indistinguishable, close to Wu family.

For example, cucumbers and soybeans are yellow and king, and rice-brewed wine is written as "yellow", which is no different from yellow king; Yellow flowers (also called grass heads) are no different from yellow and king; Both "Huang" and "Wang" are used in surnames; "Tiger" (Hu) and Fu are equally difficult to distinguish; "Hu" reads "Fu"; "Shanghai" is pronounced "Fu".

2.y and r are indistinguishable, which is close to the pronunciation of Shandong dialect.

Such as: brilliant "glory". Honor reading is light courage. Shandong people will pronounce "pork" as "pig you" and "person" as "silver".

3, CH, SH, ZH without rolling tongue sound.

"Trembling ginseng", "three mountains" and "temporary station" are inseparable, and "tongue stone" is inseparable.

4.z and j are indistinguishable.

For example, "Zhu" is called "Ju"; Read the word "car" in chess as (Zhu).

5, g, j are indistinguishable.

Such as: "Jiang" reading (just), "Gong" reading (Jiong).

6.x and q

For example, Xie (Xie-Xie) reads Qie or qiaqia; ; Strong-not-strong (2) Pronunciation of vowels: There is no difference between nasal vowels and nasal vowels, and most provinces in the south are basically the same, especially Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai.

Such as: 1, An and Ang. "Press" and "Ang"; Class and state, "half" and "help"; But money is obviously different from Qiang.

2. Yin and English. "Sound" and "English".

Ye Heya reads Ya in the evening.

4. Wanhe Wang. "Wan" and "Wang".

5. Read "Zhu" as "Zi". For example, "pig" reads "zi"; "Ballpoint pen" is pronounced "purple pen".

Second, grammar:

(1) has inversion temperature, which is close to southern Hebei and northern Shandong.

For example, the word "I don't know" in Putonghua becomes "I don't know", and it turns into "I don't know", and southern Hebei and northern Shandong will say "I don't know".

"Success" and "failure" have the same meaning (mostly used to answer questions). The word "no" here does not mean "no", but "no". For example, if you ask "Where did so-and-so go", the answer is that "going" and "not going" mean the same thing. "So-and-so ate", "success" and "failure" also have the same meaning.

Third, dialects.

Guo (sound): (1) Guo Cheng (mostly used when asking questions): refers to the presence or absence. For example, "eating too much" means "have you eaten", then the answer is "eating too much" or "not eating" (not eating).

(2) X is not X. If you ask "too good" (or too good), it means "good" and "later" (or later), it means "will".

(3) Guanfu: pot cover. The pot crown is a pot cover (with a taste of classical Chinese).

(4) Basket burning: a small laundry basket used to wash rice when cooking. Rudong has a joke: Rudong people speak two languages, 95% speak Subei dialect, 5% speak Wu dialect, and the locals call it Qihai dialect. When Rudong county engaged in reclamation, the migrant workers in the county stayed in the nearest place to the East China Sea. The chef went to the local farmer's house and borrowed a small washing basket for rice (called Tao Tao by the locals). When the chef went to a farmer's house, he saw a small laundry basket hanging under the eaves of the farmer's house, so he said to the farmer, "Borrow (a) Tao Tao from your house." Don't even borrow a pottery basket, hang it under the eaves and say no. The peasant woman listened to the cook's "Saobi" as "burning dustpan" and said shyly and loudly, "borrow a burning dustpan, there are some."
