Founded in 1946, the National Cartoonist Association (NCS) is the most influential professional cartoonist organization in the United States. In addition to its headquarters in new york City, it is also located in Connecticut, Florida, Long Island, Metro, new york, Northern California, the Great Lakes of North America, San Diego, Los Angeles, northern new york, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Toronto and Chicago.

The majors involved in this association include newspaper comics, periodical comics, comic books, editorial comics, animation, funny comics, greeting cards, humorous magazines, book inserts, sports comics and so on. The main awards of the association include Ruben Award, Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award and T-square Award, in addition, there are advertising illustrations, photo album animations, TV animations, book illustrations, periodical cartoons, editorial cartoons, gag cartoons, greeting cards, magazine photo albums and magazine illustrations. There are 12 Ruben awards for magazine illustrations, newspaper illustrations, newspaper display board cartoons and newspaper comic books, and many awards such as feature award, new media award and sports cartoon award have been suspended. The Ruben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year symbolizes the highest honor of American cartoonists, similar to the Oscar Award in the film industry. Originally, the award was named Billy do Bubeck Memorial Award, but after 1954, it was changed to Ruben Award in the name of the first president, Ruben Goldberg, whose famous figurine was also designed by Ruben.
