Henan dialect contains a large number of rhyming words. In terms of quantity, compared with Zhengzhou dialect and other Henan dialect areas, Kaifeng dialect is the most prominent.

Some people compare Zhengzhou dialect to "Henan-flavored Putonghua" and call Kaifeng "Henan-flavored Beijing dialect", mainly because of its extensive use of retroflex.
