Song of Peach Blossom Temple
Author: Tang Yin
Peach Blossom Temple in Taohuawu, and the Peach Blossom Fairy under the Peach Blossom Temple.
The Peach Blossom Fairy planted peach trees and picked peach flowers in exchange for wine money.
When I’m sober, I just sit in front of the flowers; when I’m drunk, I come to sleep under the flowers.
Half drunk and half awake day after day, flowers fall and bloom year after year.
I hope that I will die of old age among the flowers and wine, and I don’t want to bow in front of the carriage.
Cars, dust, horses, and wealth are the things of a rich man, and wine-cup branches are the fate of a hermit.
If we compare the manifest ones to the hermits, one is on the ground and the other is in the sky.
If flowers and wine are compared to chariots and horses, how busy they are and how idle I am.
The world laughs at me for being crazy, but I laugh at others because they can’t see through it.
There are no tombs of heroes from the Five Tombs, and there are no flowers or wine to cultivate the fields.
Overall appreciation:
This poem mainly expresses the poet's attitude towards life that is willing to live in seclusion, is indifferent to fame, and does not want to interact with the world and pursues leisure. Peach blossom has the same pronunciation as "escape" and means a hermit. It also embodies the valuable spirit of pursuing freedom and cherishing the value of individual life.
Throughout the whole poem, *** depicts two scenes, one is the life scene of high officials and rich people in the Han Dynasty, and the other is the life scene of Tang Yin himself in the Ming Dynasty. The former only used a dozen words such as "bow in front of the chariot and horse", "the chariot and the horse's feet", "luxury", etc. to vividly outline the life scenes of the Han Dynasty officials and rich people.
The latter is described in more detail, such as "planting peach trees", "picking peach blossoms in exchange for wine money", "when sober, he only sits in front of flowers, and when drunk, he comes to sleep under flowers", "half-drunk" "Half awake day after day", "I hope to die in old age among flowers and wine, unwilling to bow in front of carriages and horses", "The fate of being a hermit with wine cup branches", etc. are all in this category.
Although the eyes are full of fragrant words such as flowers, peaches, wine, drunkenness, etc., there is no vulgarity at all. The picture is gorgeous and elegant, the style is elegant and handsome, the melody is windy and dancing with snow, the meaning is mellow and profound, and the imagery is vivid, Clear and profound.
This poem has clear levels, simple language, euphemistic twists and turns, almost a ballad-like soliloquy. However, even such a soliloquy contains infinite artistic tension, giving people a lasting aesthetic. Enjoyment and a strong sense of identity are the best in Tang Yin's poems. It is in line with Han Yu's conclusion that "the sound of peace is weak, but the sound of melancholy is more beautiful; the words of joy are difficult to work, but the words of poverty are easy to be good" ("Preface to Jingtan Singing Poems").
