Translation:

At the wine feast, the mellow grape wine was filled into luminous cups. Just as he was about to drink, the sound of the pipa immediately sounded, as if urging people to go to war. If you are lying drunk on the battlefield, please don't laugh. How many people who went out to fight in ancient times returned to their hometowns?

Poetry Appreciation

This poem and Wang Zhihuan's work with the same title have both been recommended as the first choice of the seven masterpieces of the Tang Dynasty . The poem begins with raising a glass to drink. The first sentence emphasizes the beauty of the wine and the beauty of the glass. The wine is a specialty of the Western Regions and is red in color. According to the "Records of Ten Continents", the luminous cup was a gift from Xihu to King Mu of Zhou. It was made from jade produced in the Western Regions. It can be said that the wine has not yet arrived, but you must be intoxicated first. It contains the love of life of the person in the poem, which is extremely important to the whole poem.

In the second sentence, just as I was about to have a drink, I suddenly heard that the band was playing the pipa, urging people to set off. "Urge" has two meanings, one is to drink wine (as in Li Bai's "There is a pot of wine hanging next to the car, and the phoenix, sheng, and dragon pipes urge each other"), and the other is to urge. According to historical records, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty married his princess to Wusun, and he admired her for traveling on the road, so he sent workers to carry the zither and build it as a joy for horseback riding.

Besides, if it’s just wine, it doesn’t have a close connection with the battlefield in the next sentence. From this point of view, the poem describes the scene where soldiers are served with wine to see them off before going to the battlefield. The lyrics of "The Story of the Red Lantern" include, "Drink a bowl of wine before leaving, and you will be full of courage." The farewell wine can strengthen the morale of a soldier.

There is a jump from the first two to the third and fourth sentences, which saves a scene of toasting and drinking, and just makes a love sentence: Please Jun Moxiao soldiers have a drink, please note that they will not be there when they go. Planning to come back. "Drunken on the battlefield" is the subtitle of the corpse wrapped in horse leather. How can it be ridiculous? Saying "Lord, don't laugh" is simply a way of downplaying it.
