Suzhou dialect literature

Since the Spring and Autumn Period, there have been Wu and Wu's names. The local dialect is called Wu dialect, which comes from the place name. In the Six Dynasties, the word "I" in Wu Shengge was "agriculture", which has been used to this day and still remains in the mouth of some old farmers in Suzhou suburbs and becomes a "slave". However, there is still a big gap between Wu dialect and modern dialect in general.

Judging from the novels, legends, tanci, folk songs, jokes and other documents preserved in the Ming Dynasty, the appearance of Wu dialect in the Ming and Qing Dynasties is closer to that of modern Suzhou dialect. For example, the folk songs compiled by Feng Menglong are almost all in Wu language.

In the Qing Dynasty, the total amount of dialect literature increased greatly, and many dialects were used in sections. For example, in the vernacular novel Dou Peng Gossip (No.65438 +00) and Jiaqing Mountain Jiaqing Guest League of the early Qing Dynasty, I want to do business, regardless of rank, and my friends can sit together. When you get a child, you must be a hero; Ford was a stinking man when he was born. Our business, high or low, can sit together. Be a hero when you are proud, and be an asshole when you are down. Most dialect words such as "wo Li (we), Ge (de) and Duo (du)" can be found in modern dialects.

By the end of the Qing Dynasty, the modern printing industry had developed, and Su Bai's famous novels appeared, such as Biography of Flowers on the Sea, Tortoise with Nine Tails, Fox with Nine Tails, Hong Xue's Story in Haitian and so on. In the first episode of Flowers on the Sea, Hong hurried out. Although Zhao Puzhai walked for a long time, I recognized him when I saw his face cut and his eyes burst. He called himself "uncle" and saluted. Hong didn't answer, so he asked, "How is your mother?" ? Have you ever been here? Come to land? "What happened to your mother? Did he come with you? Where do you live? Park Zhai said, "Xiaoyu Baoshan Street Yuelai Inn. I didn't come and said I would pay a New Year call to my uncle. "I live in Yuelai Inn on Baoshan Street. Mom didn't come and said [let me] say hello to my uncle. Among them, "Bao Yan, Uncle, A, Zeng, Lai Duo,,, Tiao, Ta" are all Wu dialects, which are not much different from modern Wu dialects. It is worth noting that modern people should learn to use respectful words properly in dialogue.

During the Republic of China, there was also an upsurge of dialect novels in Shanghai, many of which used Su Bai. These works are well received by readers in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Wu-speaking areas.
