Composition on "Dialect World", Minnan Dialect

Quanzhou, my hometown, is an ancient cultural city with a long history. The beautiful scenery here is the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. My hometown has a special culture, that is, Minnan dialect. Minnan dialect is not only a dialect in southern Fujian, but also the common language of compatriots in Taiwan Province Province, connecting people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

My parents have taught me to speak Mandarin since I babbled. Later, because my parents had to go to work, I had to foster at my grandmother's house. Grandma is from southern Fujian. She hasn't studied and can't speak a word of Mandarin. In order to make grandma understand me, I often put Minnan dialect into Mandarin, and of course I make a lot of jokes.

I remember one day, my grandmother and I sat in front of the TV and watched the launch of Shenzhou 5 manned spacecraft. At a young age, I don't know much about many things happening in my country, just for fun. Grandma asked me with concern, "Smart, what do you want to be when you grow up?" I have long wanted to see the great rivers and mountains of the motherland when I grow up. So I blurted out "guide". Grandma asked in surprise, "after reading for so many years, just to sell soy sauce?" After listening to grandma, the room burst into laughter. My uncle, who is watching TV, quickly explained to grandma that grandma hurts when she listens to her stomach.

Another time, a neighbor came to see her grandmother. Her grandmother was cooking and asked me to open the door: "Clever, the wolf is coming, go and open the door." I was dumbfounded. I stood there speechless and didn't react for a long time. Later, I suddenly realized that the "wolf" in my grandmother's Minnan dialect was the "person" in Mandarin, so I immediately ran to open the door. It seems that I have to learn more Minnan dialect from my grandmother, otherwise it will not only make a joke, but also keep the guests waiting.

As a small host in southern Fujian, I hope that while actively learning Mandarin and English, students will not forget to learn our Minnan language well, so that this "living fossil of ancient Chinese" can be better passed down and developed in our generation, and the Minnan language, a treasure of Chinese culture, will glow with more brilliant glory of the times.
