The Grand Canal (Yongji Canal), now known as Weihe River, enters Huaxian County from the east of Caowan Village, Junxian County, and passes through Daokou Zhenqiao Go up the village to the north of Junzhuang and then enter Junxian County. It flows through Daokou Ancient Town from south to north, with a total length of 8240 meters (see Figure 1). There are existing cultural relics such as the canal body, docks, sluices, the city wall of Daokou ancient town, Yimian Street, Shunhe South Street, Shunhe North Street, and Dawang Temple.

The Huaxian section of the Grand Canal is located in the northern part of Henan Province with convenient transportation. It looks to Qilu in the east and Taihang in the west. It has outstanding people and profound historical and cultural accumulation since ancient times. The Grand Canal has prospered the regional economy and nurtured a rich canal culture. After Huaxian County launched the application process for the Huaxian Section of the Grand Canal, it commissioned the preparation of the "Weihe Folk Culture and Leisure Block Plan of Daokou Town" and the "Grand Canal Heritage (Anyang Section, Henan Province) Protection Plan". Canal cultural relics are protected in a timely manner. At the same time, dedicated personnel are assigned to regularly carry out tasks such as river dredging and garbage removal around the river, and nearby residents, environmental volunteers, and public welfare enthusiasts are mobilized to actively participate in protection actions.

At present, the county has built a regulating canal connecting the Dagong River and the Grand Canal, renovated, widened and beautified the river banks, and diverted the Yellow River water into the canal. We also implemented a sewage treatment project in the Huaxian section of the Grand Canal, improved pollution control facilities, and blocked sewage outlets so that wastewater could be recycled and not discharged. We have strengthened data collection and organization and cultural relic protection, and established the only canal heritage application text reference room in the country, which has collected more than 10,000 pieces of various archival materials.

In order to promote the smooth development of the Grand Canal's application for World Heritage, in accordance with the requirements of the national and provincial cultural relics bureaus, and combined with the actual situation of the canal in our county, our county has made careful preparations and plans to convert the main body of the Huaxian section of the Grand Canal into 9 piers, 6 sluices, 1 ancient city wall, the maintenance monument of South Dawang Temple, Huaxian Dawang Temple, streets and shops in Daokou Ancient Town are included in the list of World Heritage Sites.
