Is venom a total villain?

Of course not. Venom is just an alien life form. Only when possessed by the host can it be called venom, and it can multiply the host's ability to become a superhero or a super villain, depending on the host's will, so it can only be said that venom is positive and evil.

From the film title "Venom", we can see the characteristics of venom, one is "poison" and the other is "protection". Although Eddie Brock, a journalist played by Tom Hardy, was invaded and controlled by an unknown alien substance in the investigation, what kind of role he eventually became still depends on his own will, whether to fight the violence to the end at any cost or stop in time to avoid falling into the abyss of violence. Perhaps this is what the film wants to express, and it is also the dilemma that venom faces.
